Business Meeting

October 11, 2017

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m.

The board members present were: Deb Cooper, President, Marilyn Heistand and Valley Smith, Co-Vice Presidents, Bonnie Cauffman, Treasurer, Judy Stevens and Mary Liebsch, Co-Secretaries, and Murph Gerber, Parliamentarian.

The September Business Minutes has been distributed and approved.

Treasurer's Report:

As 9/30/17 the bank balances are: $31,654.53,in the checking account and $9,097.97 in the CD account.

Bonnie announced that the club received the $50.00 check from the trust of Schwab’s grateful unknown donors.

Presentations at 10:15: Cindy Smith and the Community Quilt Committee presented quilts to 3 different organizations.

  1. Boys and Girls Club for their Fundraiser Auction, Janet Gray, was presented with a patriotic quilt and a patriotic Joy Quilt.
  2. Clallam County Mosaic Group, Mary Jane Duncan, gratefully accepted the quilt for their fundraiser.
  3. Diane from Head Start was presented with 54 quilts from members. She cried with joy.

Raffle Quilt and next year’s Show:

Maryann Clayton and Loretta Billow announced the 2018 Raffle Quilt name is “In Bloom.”

Maryann also said that the Raffle tickets will be sold starting the first of February.

Nomination Committee:

Pat Paynton announced that voting would take place in November at the Business Meeting.

Vice President Report:

Valley read the responsibilities of being a Vice President.

Kamp-Sew-Alot is set. There will be a brief meeting today for participants to sign up for jobs during the retreat.

St. Andrew’s Retreat for August 2018, still has spots open. $100 is due now to reserve a space. $230 due August 1st.

Education:

Judy Anderson said that the Patsy Thompson Ruler class was a huge success. Patsy presented the club with a DVD, “Ruler Work for the Sit Down Quilter.” It will be in our library for check out.

Judy announced that Maggie Ball is coming January 17th, 2018, to give lecture and Trunk Show. She will be here to teach 2 classes, “Pattern Drafting 101,” 3 hour class, $32.00, in the afternoon on the 17th, and “6-Block Bear Paw Sampler,” 1 day class, $66.00, on January 18 at Karen’s Quilt Shop. Sign up for these classes if you are interested.

Other Reports:

Judy Ramos announced that the November Baguettes will be the last one for awhile. The project will be making a thread catcher.

Mary Ann Ballard shared completed Christmas Stockings. They are planning a stocking-making demo on October 25th. They are also taking donations of small personal items for filling the stockings.

Janet Green announced Art Quilt Sues meet at 12:30 after business meetings at Karen’s Quilt Shop. She also shared that there is a Fiber Arts Show at the Sequim Museum during the month of October.

Peggy St George announced the Christmas Party, “Nordic Noel,” a smorgasbord, with finger food and desserts, will be December 13th. Sign-ups will be November 1st. There will be raffle quilt given to Peninsula Home Fund.

On December 13th, doors will open at 10:00. Members will vote for the Challenge Stocking.

Sandra Foster is encouraging and inviting members who do hand piecing and hand quilting to stay for the afternoons on Wednesdays. At 12:30, they may share projects they are working on and socialize while hand sewing.

The Library:

Vicki Naumann announced that on the 3rd Wednesday the library will feature a quilter who will talk about a quilt she has made using library resources.

Vicki inquired if anyone has materials regarding Maggie Ball, would they please share with Vicki. The library has no books by or about Maggie Ball.

New Book in library - “50- Any Size Travel Block Book”

Sharon Clayton announced she needs the Challenge Christmas Blocks by December 6th. There will be a drawing during the Christmas Party for these blocks.

Cindy Smith announced that our member Beverly Beighle, has a show at the 5th Avenue during the month of October featuring her quilts and artwork.
