About Your Homeroom Teacher

Welcome to 1st grade! My name is Mrs. Jennifer Cary. I’ve been a teacher in Kenton Co. for the past 10 years. Previously I taught 1st/2nd loop at Piner Elementary. For the past two years I taught 4th grade here at SVE. I have my bachelor degree in Elementary Education/Reading (St. Joseph’s College in IN) along with my masters degree in the Art of Education (NKU). Discipline

My goal is to have a classroom that is warm, inviting, positive and safe for all students. Our classroom behavior system is aligned with school-wide expectations. All students are expected to make good choices and follow the school rules. If students neglect to follow the rules they must change their color.

Green: Great Day! Students start on green everyday

Yellow: Warning

Blue:Minus a portion of recess time

Red: Call parents and meet with principal

* Physical violence, bullying, verbal abuse, or any other defiant behavior will automatically result in a meeting with the principal.

*Your child's behavior will be marked in the planner that will come home nightly. This planner will be used for parent/teacher communication. Please check the planner nightly and sign your name.

Rewards

In order to reinforce positive behavior, your child will have opportunities to earn "Good Time Tickets". They will have opportunities to turn their Good Time Tickets in for prizes or rewards!

Absence Policy

Good school attendance is one of the best ways to help your child learn all that the/she can! However, we all get sick from time to time and need to stay home in order to get better. The day that your child returns to school he/she must have a note regarding the absence even if the office calls you at home to ask about the absence. Also, if you know that your child will be absent in advance, please send a note or contact the office before hand.

Thursday Folder

Each Thursday students will bring home graded assignments, school newsletters, important announcements, etc. Please make an effort to read our class newsletters every other week for important announcements.

Trips and Celebrations

Our class will be going on field trips and will have seasonal parties throughout the year. Students and families will be informed when the occasion arises. In order to volunteer for the field trip you must have a background check on file in the office.

Birthdays

Very few things in life are better than birthdays, so we live them up! If you choose to send a treat to school for your child’s birthday, it must be store bought, individually wrapped, and peanut free. Please write in the planner or email me when you plan on sending in a treat. If your child has a summer birthday, we would love to celebrate his/her ½ birthday.

Book Orders

Book order sheets from Scholastic Book Club will be available throughout the year. It is not necessary for your child to participate in this program but if you wish to do so, we are able to receive FREE BOOKS for our classroom (yeah!).

I will send home the book order form and the date on which the orders will be due. If you are interested, please send in the order along with a check made out to Scholastic. When all of the books arrive at school I will compare the books to the original order forms and distribute them to your child.

Volunteering

If you are interested in volunteering in our classroom or going on field trips with us, school policy requires a background check. Please let me know if you are interested so that I can help you start that process. Approved background checks remain good for several years.
