Summer Ventures in Science & Mathematics

/ For: Rising 11th & 12th graders
/ Deadline: January 31, 2015
Summer ventures, 4-week, cost-free statewide program of the UNC System, takes students beyond the traditional boundaries of high school science and mathematics. Students learn experimental design, laboratory skills, instrumentation, mathematical modeling, strategies in mathematical problem solving and more. Students learn these skills while engaged in specific scientific and mathematical topics of interest to them. Summer Venture sites are at Appalachian State Univ., East Carolina Univ., NC Central Univ., UNC Charlotte.
Good candidates are emotionally mature, have proven academic ability and motivation in STEM fields of study. To apply, visit

NC School of Science & Mathematics Distance Learning Experiences

/ For: High School students
In additional to the residential program, NCSSM offers high quality learning experiences to students across the state through our distance education courses and summer programs, most at no cost to students.
Interactive Video Conference (IVC) distance education courses are free and available to any NC public school student who meets the course prerequisites.
NCSSM Online distance education courses require students to apply for admission to NCSSM and choose the online program. Once admitted, students in these free courses receive an academically-rigorous learning experience in STEM content.

HOBY Advanced LeadershipAcademy

Project Uplift

/ For: HS Juniors in the most challenging courses
Project Uplift is a unique opportunity that enables high-achieving rising seniors to experience college life on the Carolina campus. Students spend two days attending academic classes, meeting with faculty and staff, interacting with Carolina students, and participating in cultural and social activities. Students can select one of the following four dates to attend Project Uplift:. There is a nonrefundable $25 registration fee; beyond that, Project Uplift is an all-expense paid program, including meals, room, and program materials (excluding travel costs).
Project Uplift is designed for students from diverse backgrounds, including those from historically underrepresented populations (African American, American Indian, Latina/o, Asian American, first-generation college, rural areas and/or disadvantaged backgrounds). Students should be academically motivated, and be enrolled in the most rigorous academic curriculum that may include AP, IB, and/or dual enrollment.

Cost: $25 per student plus traveling costs
