Maintain an awareness of the role and technical capacities of partner national societies in relation to Cash and Markets.
Support recruitment to the British Red Cross register of Cash and Markets experts and delegates to other components of the Movement.

Directorate overview
The role of Cash and Markets Adviser sits within the International Directorate.
The international work of BRC is managed by an International Directorate of more than hundred and fifty people based in the organisation’s UK Office in London and by staff employed overseas supporting BRC funded programmes and partnerships across the Middle East, Asia and African Continents.
Our International Directorate works in partnership with the wider Red Cross Red Crescent family: with some of the 190 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the globe, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The International Directorate achieves its objective of responding to vulnerable people in times of crisis through; preparedness and capacity building of local communities and national societies; emergency response through supporting regional and international response tools to sudden onset, cyclical and slow onset emergencies around the world; we support affected communities to recover after a crisis and we support in finding sustainable local solutions to reduce risks.
Purpose of the role
Ensure the provision of high quality technical and advisory services in Cash and Markets to support response and resilience programmes supporting vulnerable communities in Africa, the Middle East and Asia through the actions of our RCM partners.
To support mainstreaming of cash into National Societies through high quality field and UK Office work, working with National Societies to build up their expertise in cash delivery and preparedness.
To support and build the capacity of partner national societies within the Cash and Markets area, contributing to their organisational development as leading national humanitarian organisations.
To work collaboratively with Head of Region and Country Managers in the Partnerships & Programmes department, in a matrix structure, to support the development of integrated approaches to the provision of technical and advisory services working alongside and within the regional programmes and partnerships.
Main responsibilities
Thematic Technical & Advisory Services
1. Act as a first point of technical support for Cash and Markets programming, ensuring high quality technical advice is provided to all programmes.
2. Provide technical input into all stages (identification, assessment, analysis, design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation) of BRC programmes related to Cash and Markets, including conducting and training staff;
3. Provides technical input to and assist in all stages (identification, assessment, analysis, design, planning, implementation, monitoring & evaluation) of BRC programmes that support Cash and Markets, in line with international and internal standards and good practice.
4. Provide peer support and advice to Cash and Markets delegates and national society staff as required.
5. Assist in the assessment of partner National Society capacity in Cash and Markets programmes and make recommendations on most appropriate implementation and capacity building methodologies when required.
6. Promote and advise on the Movement cash preparedness approach and methodology to BRC regional teams and national societies.
7. Provide technical support concerning the selection of Cash and Markets delegates and consultants including the development of register experts and related promotional, training and learning events.
8. Act as the focal point for BRC input into the Cash and Markets consortiums such as the Cash Learning Partnership, developing and maintaining contacts as appropriate with institutional bodies such as Department for International Development (DFID), other humanitarian agencies, academic institutions and relevant networks. Keep abreast of innovations and developments within the sector and supporting the dissemination of such across the organisation.
9. Support the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) led Cash Peer Working Group and sub-working groups;
10. Explore, research and document innovation and technological opportunities for BRC and IFRC/ICRC to progress cash and markets including positions on data protection, and technology
11. Build the evidence base for BRC and the Movement in Cash and Markets through case studies, learning and evaluations and capturing and disseminating experience
12. Provide input and advice on cross cutting and environmental considerations and impact of BRC response, recovery and resilience programmes
13. Apply learning from BRC programmes to further develop BRC Cash and Markets approaches in relief, recovery and longer term programmes.
14. Provide and support internal communications and knowledge sharing through communities of practice and relevant platforms, facilitating the exchange of ideas and opportunities to mainstream Cash and Markets in BRC
15. Be prepared to travel to BRC programmes, sometimes at short notice and in insecure environments, to assist in programme start up and monitoring.
16. Support the integration of Cash and Market activities with other technical teams and departments including the Global Surge Team
17. Contribute towards the continued development of BRC and wider movement tools such as the Cash in Emergencies Toolkit.
Internal and External Relations
18. Collaborate with the Fundraising and Communication Divisions and colleagues within the Programmes and Partnerships Department to develop donor funding proposals for programmes including Cash and Markets components
19. Collaborate with corporate partnerships specifically to develop partnership with the private sector to provide technology and payment platforms to the Movement
20. Attend relevant events on matters relating to Cash and Markets issues and represent the Technical Advisory Department at national and international forums.
21. Provide briefings for BRC Senior Management and Trustees as requested.
22. Seek to contribute to the development of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Cash and Markets related activities
23. Liaise and maintain good working relations with all elements of the International Red Cross Movement, both the Geneva based organisations and other National Societies.
24. Undertake international on-call duties when required.
25. Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by Management.
