Summer Success and Leadership Academy Application

Lowest in Literacy, Highest in Crime. Murders every week. There’s nothing to do in Stockton. Sound familiar? As teens in Stockton, we’ve heard the same old song being sung and we got tired of it, just like you are. That’s why we’ve designed this summer leadership and success academy-because we know that the solutions to Stockton’s problems lie with you. We’ll give you the resources, the network, the support, and the skills and you will create the change. The opportunity before you is to spend a week in the summer at a college campus (for free!) having fun and figuring out ways to make your community a better place. You can do it. Yes You. Apply.

Summer Success and Leadership Academy (SSLA) consists of 50 participants that represent all areas throughout the City of Stockton. To apply you must be entering 9-12th grade. The program will run for one week in the 3rd week of July 2011 and will be hosted at the University of the Pacific Campus. At the conclusion of the program, you will design a community action plan and implement it throughout the coming year. You can apply now by completing this application and turning it in by March 31, 2011.

We will select students based on: 1) completed application with thoughtful answers. (Don’t be afraid to ask for help. 2) Your letter of recommendation (optional) and 3) An interview (applicants will be notified by phone or email).

You can submit your application via email to
