CREATE: Use a computer generated comic strip app to create a nine frame comic or Power Point/Google Slides to create a nine slide representation of the text. THEMES: A theme is a central idea present in a work of literature. A novel can have more than one theme. Think of theme this way: THEMEssage. The theme is a message you get from the text. A theme is NOT a topic. A topic might be “love”. A theme might be “love will make you do things you never thought you would do”.
PROTAGONIST: This is the character facing a problem or obstacle that needs to be solved/overcome. Determine who the protagonist is, describe him or her, and identify the problem or obstacle he or she is facing.
ANTAGONIST: This is the character that gets in the protagonist’s way or is making it difficult for the protagonist to reach some goal. Decide who or what the antagonist is, describe the antagonist, and explain, specifically, how the antagonist interferes with the protagonist.
SETTING: This is the where and when of the text. Explain where and when the text takes place and explain why the setting is important.
CONFLICT: This is the struggle between two forces. Explain one example of internal conflict (man vs. self) and one example of external conflict (man vs. man/man vs. society/man vs. nature/man vs. supernatural) from your selected novel.
RESOLUTION: This is how the struggle between two forces is resolved or solved. Explain how each conflict you discussed (both internal and external) were resolved.
POINT OF VIEW (POV): This is the perspective the story is told from. There are four main points of view: First-Person, Second-Person, Third-Person Limited, and Third-Person Omniscient.
