These instructions serve as a template for ®Word and give the guidelines for preparing a short abstract for the 26th Annual Colloquium of the Commission on the Sustainability of Rural Systems of the International Geographical Union.We suggest you use this document as a guide: copy and paste the text in this document. Please make use of the styles used in this template.Short abstracts must not exceed 500 words.

The margins should be 2.5 cm. Make sure your text is fully justified (that is, flush left and flush right). Sentences should be separated by one space only.

Do not use double-spacing. All paragraphs should be indented 0.5 cm.Do not place any additional blank lines between paragraphs.

Footnotes must be avoided across the abstract. Include necessary peripheral observations in the text (e.g. within parenthesis, as in this sentence). Do not include references.

Type your main text in Garamond 10 pt, single-spaced. Avoid the use of italics, underlined effect, bold letter and quotation marks. If the latter are absolutely necessary, they have to be placed in pairs around a word or phrase with the following style: “...”.

In the short abstract, please clearly state the problem/objective of the presentation, the pertinent methodological considerations, a summary of the obtained results and the research conclusions. If you wish to identify funding sources or significant contributions by others, include your acknowledgements.

If a bulleted list is needed across the short abstract, please apply the following format:

  • Lead-in sentence can end with a colon if necessary.
  • No blank lines should be used.
  • List items (Bullet List style) intended 0.5 cm from the left margin.
  • Rounded bullets should be used (no hyphens, no dashes, etc.).

If a numbered list is needed across the short abstract, please apply the following format:

  1. Use where the order of the list is critical.
  2. Lead-in sentence can end with a colon if necessary.
  3. No blank lines should be used.
  4. List items (Numbered List style) intended 0.5 cm from the left margin and auto-numbered.

Key words: Please add three to five keywords, separated with commas.They should be a concise summary of your abstract’s content. The words “Key words:” should be italicised, followed by a space. The key words themselves should not be italicised.
