Summer Internship Programme 2011

Department of Geography and Resource Management

The Chinese University of Hong Kong

GRM has been actively involved in teaching and research across the disciplines of urban planning, environmental management, planning and impact assessment, soil study, landscape ecology, ecotourism and resource management. In order to provide our selected students a practical working experience in the disciplines, we are planning a summer internship programme. In the past years, our students have taken part in internship arrangement with various organizations. The prime purpose is to provide valuable practical training for students in their relevant field and interests. While monetary earning is not the purpose of internship, a token allowance may be payable by some private organisations. Students may be able to obtain insights and data during the internship training period useful for their final year thesis if appropriate. So far we have received positive responses from the following organisations, more opportunities will be announced later.

•  Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, HKSAR Government (soil analysis and measurement, GIS mapping)

•  China Environmental Resources Group (urban planning and environmental management)

•  Creative Trend Co Ltd. (tourism marketing and consultancy)

•  ESRI China (HK) Limited (geographical information system)

•  Friends of the Earth (Dongjiang project)

•  HK Jockey Club (landscape ecology)

•  The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club (environmental management, landscape ecology and GIS)

•  The Conservancy Association (environmental education)

•  The Hong Kong Observatory (Student should apply to the organization directly by 5 May)

Quality and commitment from interested students with the appropriate skills and attributes are of paramount importance to establish a lasting relationship between GRM and the partnering organisations, for the ultimate benefits for our fellow graduates. The programme will be limited to the Year 2 and 3 (non-final year) students. Students interested to participate in the programme should complete the application form by 12 April 2011 (Tue). All applications will be subject to selection and endorsement by a selection committee comprising of GRM staff in the relevant fields. The participating organizations have the final decision in the selection of students for internship training.
