Summer Fellowship Opportunity

Summer Fellowship Opportunity

SUMMER FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY:

INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL LAW

> Spend the summer working with the International Criminal Court, the Mechanism for the International Criminal Tribunal, or the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia

APPLICATIONS DUE ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2016

The Human Rights Center will support 1-2 students for summer internships with the International Criminal Court (ICC), International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), or the Mechanism International Criminal Tribunal (MICT). The selected students will receive recognition as a designated UMN Law School nominee, an institutional letter of recommendation, and a Human Rights Fellowship of up to $5,000 to cover expected expenses.

Nominees with Human Rights Center support have consistently been successful in securing these internships in the past; however, if the UMN Law School candidate is not accepted at an international tribunal despite the endorsement, we will work with the student to identify an alternative placement for a summer fellowship in the field of international law and human rights.

Generally, these placements must be a minimum of 3 months. The working languages for the tribunals are English and French and knowledge of both, although not required, will be an important advantage.

TO APPLY: Submit to the Human Rights Center by November 21:

  1. A copy of your complete application to be submitted to the ICC, ICTY, or MICT, including all components (generally the UN application form, cover letter, CV, transcripts, two letters of reference, and one writing sample). See each website for instructions on the process of applying for an internship.
  1. If interested, include a completed abridged application (attached) for the University of Minnesota’s Human Rights Fellowship, including a proposed itemized budget of expenses up to $5,000.

PLEASE NOTE: You must submit a complete application to be considered. Applications must be submitted to Vicky Nguyen at the Human Rights Center by Monday, November 21, 2016 (12:00 pm). Please feel free to contact the Human Rights Center with any questions.

We are grateful to the continued and generous supporters of the Human Rights Fellowship Program that make these opportunities possible for our students
