Clinical Coordinator of Sports Medicine

a.  Job Summary

i.  In accordance with the mission of Fresno Pacific University Department of Sports Medicine, the Clinical Coordinator, under the direction of the Director of Sports Medicine, plans, organizes, staffs, directs student-athlete care on a daily operational basis, and provides daily sports medicine coverage for Fresno Pacific University athletic teams as assigned. The Clinical Coordinator functions within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of Fresno Pacific University.

b.  Job Qualifications

i.  Minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or other related discipline.

ii. A Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).

iii.  Minimum of three years Sports Medicine experience at the collegiate level of athletics.

iv.  Minimum of two years experience in leading, directing, and managing clinical staff.

v. Current Professional Rescuer CPR and First Aid Certification.

vi.  Eligible to become an Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI).

vii.  An expressed personal Christian commitment and support of the Christian mission of Fresno Pacific University.

viii.  Ability to act independently and make decisions under all circumstances.

ix.  Excellent communication skills.

x. Must be able to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment.

xi.  Must be able to handle confidential information in a discreet manner.

xii.  Positive attitude/behavior.

c.  Job Relations

i.  Reports to: Director of Sports Medicine

ii. Supervises: Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers, and Athletic Training Students.

d.  Job Responsibilities

i.  Supervises the daily care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic related injuries.

ii. Responsible to train, orient, and recruit clinical staff.

iii.  Responsible for purchasing and inventorying of clinical supplies.

iv.  Responsible for maintenance and repair of Sports Medicine Clinic.

v. Clinical Liaison with California State University, Fresno Athletic Training Education Program.

vi.  Administer emergency care and make referrals.

vii.  Facilitates communication among student-athlete, physician, and coach.

viii.  Monitors staff adherence to established policies and procedures.

ix.  Provides direct care as a Certified Athletic Trainer to all student athletes and is assigned high risk sports which require associated travel. May require associated driving.

x. Coordinates Sports Medicine coverage for all Fresno Pacific University intercollegiate home and away events.

xi.  Educate and counsel coaching staff, student-athletes, Graduate Assistants, Athletic Training Students, and co-workers.

xii.  Conducts performance evaluations for Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers and Athletic Training Students.

xiii.  Ensures efficient patient flow in Sports Medicine Clinic.

xiv.  Monitors documentation of athletic related injuries into Sportsware.

xv.  Maintains continuing education units required by the NATA.

xvi.  Complies with NAIA medical regulations and GSAC Athletic Trainers’ Handbook.

xvii.  Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine, Director of Athletics, and Associate Director of Athletics.
