Summer Company 2009

Huntsville and area

Benjamin Osorio: Travelling by boat gives this Huntsville High School student’s company, The Mary Lake Workers, a unique way to reach his customers on Mary Lake in the Port Sydney/Huntsville area. Helping cottagers improve and maintain their properties will be his specialty, with yard work and odd jobs such as painting. By focusing on hard work and a small market area, The Mary Lake Workers will no doubt develop a reputation for customer satisfaction on the lake.

Brett Hutnik: Huntsville and area cottagers and homeowners will be happy to have the services of West Edge Labour Works to enhance and maintain their properties this summer. Tree falling, brush clearing, and general labour are among the services offered, but Brett’s energy and commitment to customer service is his specialty. Brett is hoping West Edge Labour Works will grow into a full time business after his studies at Georgian College are completed.

Jacob Barkey: A Huntsville High School student with an eye for opportunity, Jacob will operate Skatin’ Snacks, a refreshment cart at the Huntsville skateboard park. Skatin’ Snacks will feature a grill for hot dogs and sausages, and will offer, pop, energy drinks and a variety of snacks to keep the skaters going through the long summer days. Jacob will be the first business to serve the Rotary Club Skateboard Park, and his entrepreneurial spirit will serve him well in meeting the needs of his customers.

Bracebridge and area

Andrew Slocum: This summer Andrew decided to put his years of painting experience to good use by starting his own company, Andy’s Painting. The desire for independence and to run his own show made this a natural step for the Georgian College student. Based in Bracebridge, Andy’s Painting offers complete interior and exterior painting services for homes and cottages throughout Muskoka. He gives free estimates and can also do minor repairs.

Dallas Fish: A talent for computers and a desire to run his own business made Cottage Country Computers a natural step for this Georgian College student. Based in Bracebridge, but serving all of Muskoka, Cottage Country Computers offers a complete computer repair service either onsite or in his workshop. Dallas can also do one-on-one training to help you learn how to use all of today’s features and programs to get the most out of your computer.

Steven Vince: With a creative mind and a love of woodworking, a company called Steven’s Wooden Wonders was an obvious choice for this enterprising Bracebridge high school student. Fine woodworking pieces such as jewelry boxes and bowls from burls, lamps and other decorative items will be produced at his home workshop. Customers can visit Steven’s Wooden Wonders every Saturday at the Bracebridge Farmer’s Market.

Dana Clark: Dana has returned to her hometown of Bracebridge for the summer after completing an advanced arts and entertainment management program at Capilano University in British Columbia. Gravenhurst and area

Courtney Miller: Courtney’s commitment to improving the environment led her to establish Miller Green, a lawn care company serving the town of Gravenhurst and the surrounding area. Miller Green can improve your environment with services such as lawn care, gardening, general yardwork, and can also keep an eye on your property when you’re away on holidays or between visits to the cottage. Minden/Haliburton

Connor Duhaime: A passion for paddling led Connor to start Waves n’ Water, a kayak instruction school operating in and around Minden. Focussing primarily on whitewater kayaking, Waves n’ Water will use the world class Gull River whitewater reserve to teach paddlers of all levels. Flatwater lessons can also be arranged, either at the Gull River, or at a location of the customer’s choosing.
