Transfer of “Decorative Gas Appliances for Installation in Solid-Fuel Burning Fireplaces” to (EOIM/EOIM7) Category

At the present time, some Decorative Gas Appliances for Installation in Solid-Fuel Burning Fireplaces are Listed in the Specialty Heating Appliances (LVTT/LVTT7) category. These products are now being covered under UL’s “Decorative Gas Appliances for Installation in Solid-Fuel Burning Fireplaces” (EOIM/EOIM7) Category. The Guide Information Pages for this category states that the standard used for the evaluation of these products is the current edition and effective addenda thereto of ANSI ANSI Z21.60/CSA 2.26, " Decorative Gas Burning Appliances for Installation in Solid-Fuel Burning Fireplaces."

Products currently under the Specialty Heating Appliances (LVTT/LVTT7) category will need to be evaluated to the latest edition of this standard prior to being transferred into the (EOIM/EOIM7) category. UL has established an effective date of October 6, 2006 by which time all products will be transferred. Listings of those products that are not transferred to the new category will be withdrawn.

New UL Gas-Fired Listing Mark

In response to input from manufacturers, consumers, and regulatory authorities, UL has developed a Listing Mark specific to gas-fired products. Effective with the completion of this industry review, gas-fired products certified to the latest editions of the standards noted above and all addenda will be eligible to bear the new UL Gas-Fired Listing Mark. For more specific information on this mark please see http://www.ul.com/gas2/overview.html .

If you have a supply of UL Listing Marks, you will be permitted to continue to use existing inventory of these UL Marks until the established effective date. Upon inventory depletion and determination of compliance prior to the effective date, the new UL Gas-Fired Listing Mark should be used.

These changes will result in your products being widely accepted in the market place by customers and regulators as complying with nationally recognized safety standards for gas-fired equipment.
