JOB TITLE: Senior Trust Fundraising Officer

14 hours per week flexible hours

6 month contract

Salary scale £30,351 -£36,099 including London weighting pro rata depending on experience

About the role

Alcohol Concern is looking for a proven professional fundraiser to join us on a two day a week basis to generate funds through grant-making trusts and foundations.

You will produce tailored applications to a build a new portfolio of income from trusts and foundations, with a particular focus on core funding from small and medium sized trusts and foundations.

You will ideally come from a background of raising funds for a health or social welfare cause and you will be committed to learning about Alcohol Concern’s activities and programmes. You will be a self-starter, able to work independently and be deadline driven to produce high quality funding applications and reports.

We have offered this on a 2 day a week basis for 6 months but we are flexible on hours and this role could be home based. We are also open to applications for 1 day a week.

Key Responsibilities

Research

  • Systematically research and identify potential new trusts and foundations and submit tailored applications.

Fundraising

  • To package up appropriate activities, programmes and budgets within Alcohol Concern’s work plan, translating them into relevant, professional and compelling funding proposals to trusts, foundations and statutory funders.
  • To take responsibility for leading the completion of reports to funders on the progress of projects they have funded. This will include working in conjunction with the project manager in drafting the report to update funders on what we have achieved in terms of the project activities, outcomes and expenditure, any changes to the project and the rationale and if appropriate forthcoming work that the grant will fund.
  • To work in conjunction with other staff to develop project budgets for funding applications and feedback progress against budgets to income from small/medium sized trusts and foundations and to contribute to the overall annual budget setting process for the Fundraising team.
  • Contribute to organisation wide fundraising initiatives such as Dry January
  • To contribute to a ‘bank’ of projects of Alcohol Concern’s work that could be used by other staff to access income streams and input into the wider work with fundraising and income generation colleagues. .

Database management and administration

  • Maintain a comprehensive schedule for reporting and general stewardship ensuring appropriate and timely feedback and reports on successful funding applications.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of communication with donors, trusts and foundations ensuring the database is regularly updated with funding history and income received and any feedback on applications noted.
  • Provide regular updates to the Line Manager
  • To maintain a log of major funding opportunities with criteria review dates, and application deadlines.

Accountability

The post-holder will be line managed by the Communications and Fundraising Manager.

Person Specification

Essential skills, knowledge and experience required for this post are:

1.A number of years’ proven experience of charitable income generation through grant-making organisations in the health or social welfare field.

2.Demonstrate a strong track record of achieving funding targets from small, medium or large grant making bodies

3.Be a self-starter, able to work independently and be deadline driven to produce high quality funding applications and reports

4.Have excellent written communication skills with a keen eye for detail

5.High level of numeracy with experience of preparing budgets for funding proposals and monitoring on spending.

6.Highly organised and capable of managing own time on a day-to-day basis and delivering to tight deadlines

7.Ability to develop and build positive working relationships with senior colleagues and a range of stakeholders.

8.Highly self-motivated, creative and determined with the ability to take initiative and problem solve effectively.

9.Flexible and able to adapt quickly as situations develop and change.

10.Able to prioritise and manage own workload whilst juggling numerous projects on a range of projects or enquiries.

11.Outstanding written and oral communications skills with the ability to translate complex research, statistics and data into engaging copy for a range of audiences.

Desirable

  1. Understanding of current policy issues within the alcohol field.

Job Description - Other Information

General

The post-holder will attend staff meetings, team meetings and other internal meetings as appropriate.

The post-holder must have a commitment to and a willingness to work within Alcohol Concern’s Dignity at Work Policy, its Health and Safety Policy and other policies as set out in the Alcohol Concern Staff Handbook.

Conditions of Service

This post is for 14 hours per week with some flexibility about when these are worked.

The standard working day is 9:00 am to 5:00pm or 9.30am to 5.30pm, 7 hours per day plusone hour for lunch.

The annual holiday entitlement is 28 days per year pro rata, not including public holidays.

Salary scales are based on the local government National Joint Council APT & C scales. The salary scale for this post is NJC Points 32 to 39,currently £30,351 -£36,099including London Weighting. This is a fixed 6 month position. There is a contributory pension scheme (Employer 7%, Employee minimum contribution 3%).

The post is based at Alcohol Concern's current offices at New City Cloisters, 196 Old Street, London EC1V 9FR but there is some flexibility for it to be home-based if required.
