I asked my school librarian to give me some

recommendations and here's the link she sent me.

Not sure if you already have this. It's a good

list and goes from k to 12th grade. Although it's

been around, most district librarians still use this.

As for 3rd grade books, here are my recommendations and it's also cleared by Bridgette.

James and the Giant Peach

Spinach

Stuart Little

1. One by Kathryn Otoshi (standing up for others, bullying) * Mrs. Kennedy shared this gem with me. :-)

2. Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed by Emily Pearson (one person can make a difference; spreading acts of kindness) *Erika Kay shared this gem with me. :-)

3. Stand in My Shoes: Kids Learning About Empathy by Bob Sornson (empathy) I use this one but it might not be a perfect fit for K-1.

4. The Juice Box Bully by Bob Sornson (standing up for others)

5. A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue by Julia Cook (the difference between soliciting necessary help from adults vs. "tattling") - This one is probably too young for 4th-5th.

6. The Potato Chip Champ by Maria Desmondy (kindness/caring)

7. The Brand New Kid by Katie Couric (including others who are new/different; empathy)

8. The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes by Mark Pett (everyone makes mistakes; nobody's perfect, etc.)

9. The Empty Pot by Demi (honesty;trustworthiness)

10. If Everybody Did by Jo Ann Stover (responsibility; cause and effect)

11. The Wump World by Bill Peet (environmental responsibility)

12. Making Friends is An Art by Julia Cook and The Crayon Box That Talked by Shane Derolf - (making new friends; celebrating diversity) - These are especially good for K-2; 3, maybe; too young for 4-5. Kids can make text-to-text connections between the two books.
