This document has been prepared by the State Plans Division of the Planning Commission (Government of India) in collaboration with the Human Development Resource Centre (HDRC), United Nations Development Programme, (UNDP) New Delhi. It is a compilation of successful Government initiatives from across the country. This volume contains cases under three sections – Land, Water and Livelihood: Human Development and Social Services and Public Interface with Government. An attempt has been made to highlight the operating mechanisms and the key strengths that have contributed towards their success. The objective of this document is to facilitate inter-state comparisons and encourage the replication of these initiatives in other parts of the country.
