SWHS TIGER MARCHING BAND COMMITMENT CONTRACT
Band is a co-curricular activity. Participation in the marching band is required for all students who enroll in Band or the Colorguard class. There must also be a commitment from students who choose to be a part of the group to be on time to ALL rehearsals and performances. This will mean rearranging work schedules or other activities (as covered in the band handbook). Parents must ensure that students will be on time to all rehearsals and performances. Unlike sports teams, there is no way of substituting players who do not attend or do not perform up to standard. Failure to participate or to maintain eligibility will be detrimental to the band, and willresult in a change of your performance status (as covered in the band handbook).

InitialI have received the schedule of activities for the year, and I will make the commitment to attend all rehearsals and performances.
____II. PREPARATION
InitialI will make the commitment to come to all rehearsals fully prepared with my instrument in good working order, a pencil, sheet protectors containing all sheet music and drill charts, a flip folder with the attendance barcode, a water bottle (1 quart), and appropriate clothing and shoes. Failure to do so may result in suspension from the Marching Band and or removal from the show (as covered in the band handbook).
____III. ATTENDANCE
InitialI understand that attendance at all rehearsals and performances is mandatory unless prior arrangements have been negotiated. The Band Directors may make individual exceptions based on specific circumstances. If a student misses a rehearsal he/she will be given a zero for that rehearsal. Multiple absences will result in a failing 6 week grade which will negate the P.E. credit you are receiving. Students must fill out an absence form to be excused from a rehearsal or performance. The attendance policy is as follows:
Summer Rehearsals:
All August rehearsals are MANDATORY
NOTIFICATION OF AN ABSENCE (other than illness) MUST BE SUBMITTED TO MR. MORRIS-BRAMEIN WRITING THREE WEEKS PRIOR TO THE REHEARSAL(as covered in the band handbook).
Excused absences are: Illness, death in the family, a familysummer vacation (planned far in advance and not able to be moved), or school sponsored events. Examples of Un-excused absences are: Work, homework, tutoring, vacations not previously planned. One absence from rehearsal, excused or un-excused, may result in a change in your performance status. A parent conference may be needed to regain eligibility. If attendance or behavior jeopardizes the success of the group, the directors have the right to change the students performance status (as covered in the band handbook).
____IV. FAMILY SERVICE COMMITMENT
InitialEach student and parent agrees to donate service to the SWHS Band and BandBoosters for two of the following (check two that apply):

_____Volunteer to serve on a Booster Committee (parents only)
_____Donate food, supplies, or services for the BandBooster Club,contact directors or booster president for needs.
_____Volunteer to work at Marching Band/Booster event (Car Wash, Report card pick up, Odyssey, Football Games)

InitialI support the commitment that my son or daughter has made to the Spring Woods High School Tiger Band. I understand that this includes a responsibility on my part to ensure that my son or daughter has transportation to and from each rehearsal and performance. I will also take an active part in the guidance of my son or daughter's time management to guarantee that this commitment is fulfilled.
