How Long Have I Got, Doc?
New training DVD for GPsHow Long Have I Got, Doc? is the Dying Matters Coalition's new training resource which aims to boost GPs confidence in initiating and undertaking end of life care conversations with patients. The DVD evolved from a series of GP communications pilots held in 2010/11.
A total of 113 GPs took part in workshops which boosted their confidence and led to a change in behaviour. When end of life conversations were initiated by the GP, 9 out of 10 patients chose to continue them.
How Long Have I Got, Doc? is available for £29.99 or £49.99 including a pack of Dying Matters materials. Find out more information on the Dying Matters website at or email to place your order.
Open to All
New DVD and report on LGB&T end of life care issuesOpen to All? Meeting the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people nearing the end of life is a new DVD and report produced by NCPC and the Consortium of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgendered Voluntary and Community Organisations. Endorsed by Stonewall and the human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell, Open to All? provides a unique insight into perceptions of end of life care for the 22,000 LGB&T people who die each year. It highlights concerns that a significant proportion of the population are not accessing appropriate care when they are dying because of their sexuality or gender identity. Many LGB&T people do not feel that end of life care services are open to them and are concerned that they will face discrimination and a lack of understanding from health and social care providers when they are dying. The report highlights that older LGB&T people may face particular problems, especially if they have not felt able to be open about their identity previously. The DVD and report make a number of key recommendations for both end of life care providers and LGB&T organisations.
NCPC subscribers will receive the report and DVD in the next week. Click here for more information or click here to buy a copy.
