Division of Anthropology Scholarship

Amount: up to $250

Open to: Anthropology major or minor students who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.

Criteria:

  3. Write a short essay (500 words maximum) explaining your educational and career goals and how a Division of Anthropology Scholarship will help you achieve them.

Open to: New and continuing CSUF students who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree and who are enrolled, or plan to enroll, in ANTH 476 during Summer Session 2017 to attend the International Field School in Brazilian Archaeology.

Criteria:

Norman Rosen Scholarship for Student Research and Conservation in Primatology

Amount: Up to $500

Urban Agriculture Community-Based Research Experience (U-ACRE) Fellowship

Amount:$1500 stipend, $500 book allowance, plus conference travel

Open to: New and continuing CSUF students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree and are interested in earning academic credit for research and community-service in a team environment.

Criteria:

  • Application
  • Upper division standing in any major
  • 2.8 GPA or higher
  • Recommendation from a CSUF faculty member
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the topics of urban agriculture; understanding problems in sustainability, food security, nutrition, and environmental and social justice; developing and applying effective solutions to those problems; partnering with local K-12 schools, non-profits serving the hungry and homeless, and area farms.
  • Ability to commit to at least 30 hours per semester of off-campus service-learning

Division of Anthropology -- Research Proposal Format

Purpose:Your proposal should describe your research and explain why you need funding for it.

Who Can Apply for a Research Award:Funding may be requested by students for faculty-supervised research (such as a thesis, independent study, research assistantship in the field or lab, research training in a field school, or research experience in a study abroad program). We know that our students are interested in a broad range of topics; you are encouraged to think creatively about how your goals and interests might fit into the scope and spirit of the award categories.

Word Limit: Components 3-8(below) should not exceed 1000 words (total).

Components: Your proposal must include the following components [in order].

1)Title

2)Name of Faculty Supervisor

3)Abstract

4)Statement of the Problem [or, Statement of Purpose,or Objective]

5)Theoretical Perspective

6)Literature Review

7)Methodology

8)Significance: Discuss the expected significance, implications and/or results of your project, as appropriate for your submission.

9)Itemized Budget and Justification: List and explain the expenses for which you are requesting an award. Funding can be requested, for example, for travel (including mileage), supplies, tuition and fees.

10)Schedule: List and explain the dates when you expect to accomplish the important milestones of your proposed research.

11)References Cited: You must use a style guide that is commonly accepted in anthropology, such as American Antiquity, American Anthropologist,or Chicago Manual of Style.

12)Institutional Review Board (IRB): Research that involves human or animal subjects may require IRB review and approval. If your research may involve human or animal subjects, discuss that aspect of your research with a faculty member and, in your proposal, discuss the need for IRB approval. To be clear, you are not required to apply for IRB approval for the purpose of the proposal, but if it is relevant to your research you must discuss the need for it.
