SELECTIVE UNIT 4 (S04)

(Fine Arts)

Unit Statement: This unit provides students the opportunity to explore a fine arts medium or concept at an in-depth level. Students will participate and/or experience fine arts concepts that go beyond the walls of the school. During the experience, students will be required to reflect and communicate their learning and how it relates to the immediate community, a global perspective, and the overall future.

Essential Outcomes: (assessed for mastery)

1.  The Student Will hypothesize what he/she expects to gain from the planned experience.

2.  TSW identify a method to collect information.

3.  TSW answer the four key Experiential Learning Focus Questions.

4.  TSW synthesize the findings from the four key Experiential Learning Focus Questions.

5.  TSW communicate findings at an age-appropriate level.

Key Terms and Concepts:

Experiential Learning Focus Questions

·  What new experience or project is going to be explored? (Concrete Experience – a new experience or situation is encountered, or a reinterpretation and further exploration of existing experience)

·  How does the observed new knowledge of interesting/unique facts affect your knowledge? (Reflective Observation – an understanding of what is particularly important or unique from the personal interaction with the learning experience)

·  Based on Reflective Observation, what kind of plan or theory can be created from the new knowledge that benefits you or others in the future? (Abstract Conceptualization – reflection gives rise to a new idea, or modification of an existing abstract concept)

·  What personal or global issues will be solved with the new plan? (Active Experimentation – the learner applies new theory or plan to the world around them.)
