Subject: Single GME Nominations Process Defined
Greetings!
AOA-accredited training programs can begin applying for ACGME pre-accreditation on July 1, 2015. Leading up to that date, the osteopathic medical profession will nominate DOs to serve on committees governing the new system, including the ACGME Board of Directors.
The extensive nomination process starts this month, with the AOA providing nominees for our first two seats on the ACGME Board. The osteopathic specialty colleges and state associations are invited to submit nominations to the AOA by July 25, 2014. A special President’s Advisory Group, comprised of three past presidents, will review nominations and forward recommendations to the AOA President. With approval by the AOA Executive Committee, the AOA President will submit recommendations to the ACGME for appointment by July 31, 2014.
Nomination process:
Please submit the following information on your nominations:
- A cover letter indicating the reasons to select the candidate to serve on the ACGME Board of Directors
- A current CV of the candidate.
- A completed copy of the attached application form.
Special Note: For legal (conflict of interest) reasons, the ACGME will be unable to select nominees for the ACGME Board of Directors who directly participated in the decision to form the single GME accreditation system and will participate in the ongoing decisions necessary to implement the single accreditation system. Therefore, members of the AOA Board of Trustees are ineligible to be nominated for a position on the ACGME Board of Directors.
