Dear Parents and Students:

This letter is to inform you of our procedures regarding dropping off and picking up students in the parking lot. These procedures are in place to protect the safety of the students, parents, volunteers, and staff of Surprise Elementary. Please take a few minutes to read and follow these procedures.

Dropping off students:

Students may not be dropped off earlier than 8:30 am, unless previous arrangements with a teacher or school staff member have been made that require the student to be present at school before 8:30 am.
Students being dropped off along the FRONT DRIVE CLOSEST TO THE SCHOOL
Please pull all the way to the yellow fire hydrant on the right by the kinder playground and past the library or as far up as possible to allow new vehicles to enter the drive to drop off students.
Students should exit the vehicle on the side closest to the school building.
After dropping off the student, we ask the parent/guardian to wait in line for the crossing guard to signal them to move past the crosswalk and exit the drive.
Students being dropped off in the PARKING LOT AREA
Park in a designated parking space before allowing the student out of the vehicle.
Parent/Guardian should walk with the student to the crosswalk area, so the student can safely enter the crosswalk and be escorted across the crosswalk by a staff member. If no staff member is present, parents/guardians should escort the student across the crosswalk to ensure the student’s safety from vehicles dropping off students. Always use the crosswalk.
All students and parents should wait in the court yard until 8:40 when the bell rings. A staff member will then have everyone enter the building starting with kindergarten through 8th grade using the west side entrance.

Picking up students:

Students being picked up along the FRONT DRIVE CLOSEST TO THE SCHOOL
Students being picked up will be allowed to walk to vehicles parked along the front drive when the dismissal bell rings.
Please pull forward toward the fire hydrant while waiting for a student to come to your vehicle if the space in front of you is vacant. This will allow additional vehicles to enter the drive.
Once the student is in the vehicle, please wait in line until you are able to pull forward and exit the drive.

Students being picked up in the PARKING LOT AREA
Use of the parking lot is only for parents who park in designated parking spaces and exit their vehicle to pick up a student from the front of the school. Always use the crosswalk.
Parking in undesignated areas is not allowed.
If no designated parking spaces are available in the parking lot, exit and return to the entrance of the parking lot to wait for a designated space to become available. A staff member will be standing at the parking lot entrance directing traffic to allow vehicles into the lot when a space is available.
Parents/guardians who do not wish to exit their vehicle to pick up a student must pick up the student along the front drive instead of entering the parking lot.

Preschool Parents:

Surprise Elementary preschool parents are encouraged to park in the East parking lot. This is closer to the preschool entrance and exit. The entrance for this parking lot is on Greenway Road. This will help avoid the arrival and dismissal times for the K-8 students. Please remember that the preschool students must be signed in and out every day.

We appreciate your assistance in ensuring each student gets to and from the vehicle safely. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in maintaining a safe and orderly environment for our community at Surprise Elementary.
