Student Council Canned Food Drive

The student council members will continue to collect canned foods this week, October 29th – November 1st to benefit Anderson Interfaith Ministries. On Saturday, November 10th, the student council will be sorting and stacking the items on the shelves at AIM. PLEASE HELP THE LESS FORTUNATE IN OUR COMMUNITY FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

Good Citizens

Congratulations to September and October’s Good Citizens! These children always put others before themselves, are responsible and take ownership of their actions, respect their teachers and peers, and always do their best!

These children will enjoy CiCi’s Pizza for lunch on Tuesday, October 30th! YUM!

United Way – Hat Day

Anderson School District Five supports the United Way of Anderson County. On Thursday, November 1st, any student who contributes $1.00 to United Way will be able to wear their favorite hat to school. If your child would like to support this worthy cause, please send $1.00 to school on Thursday, November 1st. Every dollar collected by the classrooms will help support worthy organizations in our community!

Cog AT and ITBS Testing – Second Grade

Second grade students will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test and the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Results from this test will be used to determine eligibility for the district’s gifted and talented program beginning in 3rd grade.

·  Cog AT Testing Dates – October 24th, October 25th, and October 26th

·  ITBS Testing Dates – November 8th and 9th

Veteran’s Day Ceremony - November 9th, 8:15 AM

There will be a special flag-raising ceremony at Midway on Friday, November 9th at 8:15 A.M. Students should wear red, white, and blue to honor our nation’s veterans. We will have a patriotic sing along around the flagpole. All veterans are invited to join us for this occasion, so that we can recognize and thank you for your service.

YMCA Reindeer Run

We will be participating in the YMCA Reindeer Run on Saturday, December 1st. I’d love for you to join us at this event! Registration forms were sent home last week. If you need another copy, let me know. Fill this out and send it back to use with your check by Friday, November 16th. We’ll turn it into the YMCA. Make sure you indicate on the form that your child attends Midway! The school with the highest student/staff participation will win $500! As you know, Midway can’t be beat!

PTA Meeting

The PTA Executive Board will be meeting on Wednesday, November 7th at 9:15 AM in the conference room. The general PTA meeting will be held at 10:30 AM., following the board meeting, in the small conference room off of the library. Please plan to attend and support your hard-working PTA! We completely understand if your schedule does not allow you to attend. To accommodate all parents, the general meeting will be recorded and placed on the Midway website, www.midway.anderson5.net.

The Energizer Guyz and the Conservation Caper

Wednesday, October 17th the students learned about how to be more energy efficient with the help of the Energizer Guys from Duke Energy. Now, your family has an opportunity to request a FREE energy efficient kit from https://www.myenergykit.org/ to save energy at home. All the information to participate is in the Conservation Caper Guide. The school in the state that has the highest percentage to sign up for the most kits will win $2,000! The winners will be announced July 15th, 2013. Parents please complete the “I Did It” slip from your workbook and return it to school.
