Administration of non-parenteral drugs is administered by unlicensed personnel completing the state approved training program for medication managers. All medications administered must have a written physicians order and labeled for the respective person served with name, name of medication, strength, dose, and time to be given.

Medications will be stored in a cabinet with a lock. The key for the lock shall be in the possession of the staff member responsible for drug administration. Medication will be disposed of and documentation provided according to state and federal regulations.

For ICF-MR person(s) served, Progress Industries may be required to purchase medications if the individual’s insurance does not cover it and a substitute is not available.

Progress Industries does not deliver medications but may be required to transport medications from the pharmacy to the site after hours and on weekends. This would be done on an emergency basis only with the approval of the nurse or manager.

All HCBS support staff employed by Progress Industries will have successfully completed the ten hour state approved Medication Manager Course, within the probationary period. If an employee is already certified as a CMA, the CMA certificate will be accepted in lieu of the 10-hour Medication Manager course.

All ICF-MR support staff will complete the state approved Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course within 2 years of hire.

All residential staff working with persons served in the HCBS. SCL levels of care will successfully have completed the 10-hour state approved Medication Manager’s Course within probationary period. All new medication managers will complete at least one medication pass with 100% accuracy with a site manager or a medication manager with 1 year experience and no med.errors in a 12-month period.

All residential staff working with the persons served in the ICF-MR level of care will successfully complete the 60-hour state approved Medication Aide Course. (Prerequisite 60-hour Resident Aide Course or Certified Nurse Aide Course)

All new CMA’s will complete 10 hours of med. passes under the supervision of a registered nurse.

This training will include referencing all meds administered to review restrictions, and contraindications. If problems or issues are identified, they are documented and

reported to the prescribing professional.
