LESSON PLAN OUTLINE

Monday / NO SCHOOL!!!
Tuesday / 1) Stems Test Week 14. Students will copy down new stems, study the previous ones and then take their test.
2) Students will continue to study connotation and denotation using the “cockroach” worksheet.
Wednesday / 1) Complete the Ticket Into Class
2) Students will be introduced to the various types of literary devices through a powerpoint presentation. As they view the powerpoint they will take notes on what each device is and examples of what it looks like.
Thursday
and Friday / 1) Students will complete figurative language centers. In each center they will analyze and construct different types of figurative language as they complete their “broken heart”. At the end of the center activities the students will be assessed on their “broken heart”. Their “broken heart” will showcase their own original examples of each literary device.
The centers are listed below:
  • Idioms: online website activity in which students identify which idioms correctly complete a sentence.
  • Alliteration: students will create examples of alliteration using one word from each column on a word bank.
  • Hyperbole: students will identify examples of hyperbole using a Shel Silverstein poem.
  • All types of figurative language: students will identify the device being used in each sentence.
  • Personification: Students will identify what is being personified in each sentence.
  • Onomatopoeia: Students will identify the onomatopoeia in each sentence.
  • Onomatopoeia: Students will create examples of onomatopoeia for each animal listed.
  • Similes and Metaphors: Students will identify whether a simile or metaphor is being used in a sentence.
