Subject: Establishment of New Emalahleni Youth Structure

Emalahleni Local Municipality hosted more than 100 young people at the Indwe Town Hall on the 3rd March 2018 to establish a new youth structure.

The structure is elected to represent the interests of young people and to serve as their voice. It is also a platform where youth related issues are discussed and escalated to relevant offices where they will be addressed or taken into consideration.

Young people came in numbers to represent different societal formations that are concerned of the youth development and to effectively participate on the establishment or election of the Youth Council.

“SAYC is a motherboard of all information, in youth council you will find political organisations, you will find youth in business, you will find youth in agriculture as well as in sport and in other societal structures. All the mentioned structures are part of the SAYC as an autonomous structure”, said Mahashe.

Summing up his speech he also pleaded with the new structure to work hand in hand with sector departments and the municipality to ensure an integrated service delivery.

It was a productive programme as young people were engaging on issues of concern that affect youth development and that need immediate intervention.

Summing up the programme Nyukwana advised the structure about how to ensure that youth programmes are taken into consideration.

“You must develop an action plan that will assist or guide the implantation of your programmes that are on the Integrated Developmental Plan (IDP) which is a five year plan that is reviewed on annual basis. You must also advice the council about the programmes that you want to be funded in the next financial year as some of the projects that are currently funded by the municipality their contracts will end in the next financial year”, she said.

Nyukwana also applauded the outgoing structure for their tireless contribution in the establishment of new structure and for the prominent role they played during their term.
