Driver licences

Class 1 light motor vehicle licence, Class 2 medium rigid vehicle licence, Class 3 medium combination licence, Class 4 heavy rigid licence, Class 5 heavy combination licence, Class 6 motorcycle;

Endorsements

D dangerous goods; F forklift; I driving instructor; O testing officer; P passenger; R roller; T tracks; V vehicle recovery; W special-type vehicles that run on wheels, other than forklifts.

3Categories of road transport service required to hold a Transport Service Licence under the terms of the Transport Services Licensing Act 1989 are: goods service, small passenger service, large passenger service, vehicle recovery service.

4Definitions

Large passenger services include but are not limited to - scheduled urban bus services, intercity route services, tour coaches, charter coaches, school buses, shuttle services, taxi services, and services for passengers with disabilities;

Small passenger services include but are not limited to - buses, tour coaches, school buses, sedan taxis, taxi vans, shuttle vans, and total mobility vehicles;

Goods services include but are not limited to - general freight, furniture removals, bulk liquids and gases, concrete vehicles, aggregate, containers, logs, livestock, refrigerated cargo, overdimension and overweight freight, and courier delivery.

1.2Road, rail, sea, and air commercial transport are compared in terms of annual volumes of goods and passengers.

Demonstrate knowledge of various roles within the New Zealand road transport industry.

2.1Road passenger and goods services in New Zealand are described in terms of types of vehicle used.

Range:three types of passenger services, three types of goods services.

2.2Responsibilities of LTSA and the New Zealand Police in terms of road transport industry operations are identified.

2.3Non-government organisations are described in terms of development and support of the road transport industry.

Range:three organisations including - Road Transport Forum and the NZ Motor Industry Training Organisation (Incorporated)

2.4Occupations within the road transport industry are described in terms of activities, knowledge and skills, personal qualities, physical requirements, entry requirements, training available, and opportunities for progression.

Range:four occupations, at least two of which are driving related; progression may include self-employment and/or business ownership.
