Course description
This course examines the special forms of English used in presenting a product or services to the public. This includes the study of press release material, promotional material, and the various ways each of these text types presents its messages.
The course involves integrated skill exercises in lexical selection, reading and preparing samples of written text, and special study of features of headings, headlines, slogans and set phrases.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- identify the products and services being presented orally and in written.
- read and get the meanings of the message presented in products or services given.
- identify and match the headings, headlines, slogans or phrases with given products, services or certain mass media text.
- write a slogan or phrase for the product or service given.
- create a brochure.
- write a news release.

Remarks
* Students will take the oral test, midterm exam and do the role-play just once, but the contents relating to the tests and role-play are from the mentioned units.
* All subjects are to be changed without notifying.
Policies
- In case of late submission, you have to contact your instructor within three days after the due date. Late assignments will be deducted 30% of total marks.
- In case of absence of the oral test and midterm examination, you have to contact your instructor within three days. Otherwise, your right to take an examination will be terminated.

- You should prepare the lesson and read the textbook before the class.
- If you have further questions, do not hesitate to consult your instructor during office hours.
- You are encouraged to search for further related readings from other sources such as newspapers, magazines, websites, etc.

- Academic dishonesty and plagiarism are considered as academic crime.
- Plagiarized assignments will not be marked.

Product presentation10 %
Student thinks of a product of his or her interest and acts as a presenter of the company to present its features, sales promotions, etc. to the classby using Microsoft office programs (i.e. Microsoft PowerPoint). This product can be an innovative or existing one in the market.

PR Advertisement10 %
Student studies different kinds of advertisements in the textbook and creates an A4 advertisement of the product he or she presented in the product presentation. The graphics in the ad may be either derived from ones in the Internet, or ones you have taken / drawn on your own.

Brand and slogans10 %
Student studies how to write an effective slogan in class, then finds 10 more slogans from 10 product brands, also creates his or her own brands and writes slogans for each of the brands.

News release10 %
Student is required to choose one of the topics given from the textbook (unit 5) to write a news release by using the format learned.

Brochure10 %
Student creates a tri-fold brochure for their university, organization, company, products, or services by using Microsoft office programs (i.e. MS Word, MS Publisher, MS PageMaker)

This examination will cover contents from unit 1 – unit 3.
