LOCATION

London, England, UK

The United Kingdom is made up of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom. Situated on the River Thames, London was first settled in 43 A.D. as a Roman commercial location. Prior to the Roman contribution to London’s advancement into the civilized world, the first cultures to arrive in the area constructed megaliths such as Stonehenge, created bronze and iron ores, and produced advanced agricultural techniques. Eventually, the various clusters of mini-villages merged into a sprawling city and London grew into a city of poets, of kings and queens, cathedrals and traditions that have influenced the world. With a population of over 8 million, London is a cultural and world financial center, has the largest economy in Europe, and is the world’s most visited city. Its 43 universities comprise the largest concentration of higher education in Europe contributing to a diverse range of peoples and cultures with over 300 languages spoken within its boundaries. The London Underground is the oldest underground railway system in the world and in 2012 London became the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games three times. Among the many cities of the world, London is a top tier offering. This study abroad program will present you with the opportunity to harvest a wealth of life enriching experiences from a unique global city that will make a memorable and important contribution your personal and academic development.
