Studland 5K 2017 Race Information for Runners

Welcome

  • Purbeck Runners’ are delighted to host the Studland 5k, taking place for the 9th time at Studland Village Green on Sunday 27th August 2017 with an 11:00am start time.
  • The profits from the event will go to this year’s supported charity -Julia’s House.
  • The race is licensed by and is run under UKA rules, Licence number: 2017-30371 and is classified as mult-terrain.
  • Participants must be 11 years or older on race day.

Number Transfers

  • Number transfers are available free of charge via fullonsport.com until Noon on Saturday 26th August.
  • All transfers must be done by logging into your Full on Sport Account, we do not manually process transfers. If you need any support with this please e-mail

Directions & Location

  • The Village Race is located on Studland Village Green, BH19 3BT
  • Arrive in plenty of time – allow time to park and walk to registration
  • FREE Race Car Park located on Studland Showground field, BH19 3AY

◦When approaching from the Sandbanks Ferry the Race Car Park entrance is on your right approx. 450m beyond the Knoll House Hotel

◦When approaching from Swanage or Corfe Castle, the Race Car Park entrance is on your left approx. 300m beyond the Village Shop (Studland Stores)

◦The car park is open from 8:45am until 1:30pm – it will be locked promptly at 1:30pm

▪Note, the car park will be closed during the Race itself.

◦Beware of pedestrians or runners when arriving and leaving the car park.

◦Follow the directions of Marshals when leaving the car park.

  • If you are planning to spend the day in Studland, consider parking in either the Middle Beach or South Beach Car Parks. These are Pay and Display car parks operated by the National Trust; they are free for National Trust members.

Arriving by Bus

The number 50 bus (Bournemouth to Swanage) runs directly past the Race Village. Alight at the bus stops either side of the Village Shop (Studland Stores); further details can be found at

Before you arrive

  • Please arrive ready to race; there are no changing facilities available.
  • The remote nature of the course means that Basic Life Support and Defibrillators are available but potentially not within 8-minute UKA Road Race guidelines. Please ensure that you really are fit to run.

Toilets

  • There are toilets located in the Studland Village Hall next to the Race Village. These will be clearly signed.

Registration

  • Registration is located in the Race Village on the Green, which is a ten-minute walk from the Race Car Park.
  • Registration will be open at 9:15am and close at 10:30am.
  • Registration will be by Race Number.
  • You will need to know your race number in order to collect your bib.
  • Race Numbers will be e-mailed out on the afternoon of Saturday 26th August i.e the day before the event. Please look out for this important communication.
  • Please complete the medical details on the reverse of your running number before pinning the number to front of your running vest/top. Do not fold, cut or mutilate your running number.
  • This year your Race Number will be your “Runners Raffle Ticket”.
  • On-line registration will close at midday on Saturday 26th August

On the Day Entry– will be available between 9.15am and 10.30am for £7.00 for 15 years & under and £9.00 for 16 years & over.

Bag Drop Off

  • The Bag Drop Off is located close to Registration inside Studland Village Hall and is for the use of runners only.
  • You will need to present your race number in order to retrieve your bag.
  • Bags are left are the owner’s risk.

Race Village

  • The Race Village includes a BBQ & Refreshments, massage facilities and stalls.
  • We will have burgers, bacon baps, homemade cakes and hot & cold drinks. ALL profits will go to Julia’s House
  • The Race Village is a NO SMOKING area.

The Start

  • The Start is located in the Village Playing Fields, which you will pass on your way from the Race Carpark to Registration on the Village Green.
  • It is a 2 minute walk from the Village Green Race Village
  • Please assemble at the Start at 10.50am i.e. 10 minutes before the race.
  • It is essential you listen to the Safety Briefing (at the start) which will take place at approx. 10.55am
  • The start will be indicated by a countdown & the sound of a hooter.
  • You will run one lap of the field before leaving through the gate and onto the heath.

The Race

  • The course is approximately 5km.
  • Please hydrate well before the race. There is water at the finish but there are no water stations on the course.
  • The course surfaces include grass, gravel, sand, mud, tree roots, peat, stony surfaces, standing or running water and dirt tracks that are in places very uneven. There are 2 steep well marked downhill stretches. Wear appropriate footwear and take great care!
  • Please take care and look out for walkers, cycles and any animals that may be on the course. The route is run over footpaths that are open to the general public.
  • Please try not to discard empty gel packs, water bottles and the like on the course; please leave them by Kilometre Markers/Route Markers or keep them until you get to the Finish and leave them there.
  • The route is well signed and marshalled; look out for them and follow their instructions.
  • Please note this is a headphone/ear-phone free race. Use of headphones/earphones could result in disqualification.
  • Should you decide to drop out of the race please inform a Marshal before you leave the area. This will avoid the race being spoilt by an unnecessary search for a competitor who has simply left the area.

The Finish

  • The finish is clearly signed on the Village Green
  • Please stay in finishing order through the finish funnel, so we can get the results right!
  • You will recieve a Goody Bag on finishing. This will include a bottle of water and a homebaked cake kindly baked at Knoll Beach by The National Trust Studland.
  • There is a different Goody Bag for over & under 16s!

Results

  • Provisional race results should be available by Monday (next day) on the Purbeck Runners’ website
  • You will have to Tuesday 29th August to query the provisional race results via Purbeck Runners’ website.
  • Thereafter the final results will be published on Purbeck Runners' website & submitted to runbritain, and will appear on your “Power of 10”s.

Prizes

  • For runners 16 years and over on Race Day, trophies are awarded to the first three males and first three females. In addition the first man & lady will recieve a prize kindly donated by The Pig on the Beach Hotel, Studland.
  • For runners under 16 years on Race Day, prizes are awarded to the first three males and first three females.
  • A first prize will be awarded in the following age categories; Male V60 and Female V60. Please Note: 1 prize per runner.
  • The prize giving takes place following our Runners Raffle.

Runners Raffle

  • All runners are entered into our Runners Raffle which takes place when the last runner is home and before the prize giving (i.e. around 12 midday).
  • NEW this year – your Race Number will be your raffle ticket and you will need to bring it along to the raffle (or still be wearing it!)
  • Prizes are awarded in a random award with the called up runner getting a choice of any prize left on the Raffle table
  • There are plenty of prizes!
