Studio Prep Benefits and Obligations

Objective-

To provide an opportunity to prepare students that need additional time at the barre, or additional work in jazz or modern at a fixed cost with the intent of preparing dancers for Ballet Caliente’s Studio Company.

Description-

A dedicated group of dancers, Studio Prep is committed to takingBallet, Pointe, Jazz, Modern, Barre D and Hip Hop/Contemporary classes. Studio Prep dancers will register and attend all level 5 classes listed above and an additional Studio Prep technique class on Mondays for a discounted, set price.Additionally, all Studio Prep dancers may take the Studio Company technique class on Monday evenings and any other class for no additional fee. Studio Prep may be considered for additional “Specials” and Solos in the culminating event and other Ballet Caliente performances. On a voluntary basis, they mayrepresent Ballet Caliente at special eventsand other performance opportunities.Studio Prep dancers willencourage and support each other in every aspect and gain a “team experience”. Studio Prep students will be evaluated throughout the year and may be moved to Studio Company at Mrs. Dunaway’s discretion.

Participation-

Participation is by invitation only with following criteria taken into consideration:

  • Dedicated dancers with strong fundamentals displaying the ideals of Ballet Caliente: Discipline, Dedication, Determination and Devotion.
  • Attendance- During school year
  • Minimum of six weeks of Summer dance (classes and/or Summer Intensive Program)
  • Attitude
  • Work ethic
  • Commitment
  • Skill level- Dancers displaying strong technique at appropriate level in all disciplines of dance including but not limited to ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, and hip hop/contemporary.
  • Flexibility, Strength, Balance and Control.

Commitment-

Due to stresses of balancing schoolwork, social life, and dance commitments, the director has set the following criteria:

  • Dancers are obligated to attendall Studio Prepand Level 5 classes in addition to all rehearsals for the culminating event (Performance)and other performance opportunities as well as participate in the Jazz Ensemble.
  • All absence requests for class and rehearsal MUST be submitted to the Director in advance either by text or email. The Director will decide if the request is excused. Illnesses, special school events, Prom, family obligations, and doctor appointments, are a partial list of absences that would be considered excused. Requests are considered on a case-by case basis and occasional absences for heavy homework days will be allowed.
  • Dancers and Parents are asked to sign a “dedication contract” attesting to the level of commitment required.
  • Dancers are required to purchase B5 leotard and a logo Jazz top. All other logo wear is optional.
  • Failure to meet the commitments of membership will result in counseling. If the problem is not rectified,the dancer will be removed fromStudioPrep;yet, may continue with regular level classes paying the hourly rate and may be considered for inclusion the following year.

Specials-

Special fees and costumes fees are assessed by role. Each special will incur a costume fee and a choreography/rehearsal fee.
