Lesson 10-1 Adding Groups of 10

Students will add two multiples of 10 for sums to 100.

Students will answer questions: How many tens? How many ones are in one ten? How many is 2 tens? How many is 3 tens?

Students will add groups of tens on page 325 by relating 2+3 =5 and 20+30= 50.

Students will watch CD-ROM of Lesson 10-1.

Students will work along with teacher on page 326-328.

Quick Check 10-1 Students answer 3 problems on their own.

Friday--- Lesson 10-2 Adding Tens on a Hundred Chart

Students will use a hundred chart to add multiples of 10 to two-digit numbers.

Students will answer questions: How many tens are 40? So how many tens do you need to add to 38? What happens when you put your finger on the number 38 on the hundred chart and move to the number directly below it? What are you adding when you do straight to the number below on the hundred chart? How many rows down do you need to go to add 40 to 38?

Students will add tens on a hundred chart on page 329.

Students will watch CD-ROM of Lesson 10-2.

Students will work along with teacher on page 330-332.

Quick Check 10-2 Students answer 3 problems on their own.

Monday--- Lesson 10-3 Adding Tens to Two-Digit Numbers

Daily Common Core Review page 10-3

Students will add a multiple of 10 to a two-digit number.

Students will answer questions: How can you skip count by 10’s from 24? If you want to add 30 to 32, how many 10-cube towers should you add? How can you use skip counting to add these tens? What digit changes when you add 30+32? What did you notice about the ones digit?

Students will add tens to two-digit numbers on page 329.

Students will watch CD-ROM of Lesson 10-3.

Students will work along with teacher on page 334-336.

Quick Check 10-3 Students answer 3 problems on their own.

Tuesday---Lesson 10-4 Addition: Using Mental Math to Add Tens

Daily Common Core Review 10-4 Students will copy problems from the white board.

Today students will learn how to use mental math to add two-digit numbers.

Students will answer questions: How many tens are in 2 tens rods and a group of 3 tens rods? Now you have 27 and suppose you add 10 how can you use mental math to find the sum? What is the tens digit in 27? What is the tens digit in 10? Add these two digits. What is their sum? What is the sum of 27 and 10?

Students will add using mental math to add tens on page 337.

Students will watch CD-ROM of Lesson 10-4.

Students will work along with teacher on the following pages 338-340.

Quick Check 10-4 Students will answer problems as the teacher reads the questions.

Wednesday---Lesson 10-5 Addition: Adding to a Two-Digit Number

Daily Common Core Review 10-5 Students will copy problems from the white board.

Today students will learn how to add a one-digit numbers to a two-digit numbers with and without regrouping and record the sum in horizontal form.

Students will answer questions: How can you use connecting cubes to add 5 to 17? How many ones are there? Can a make a ten with these cubes? How many ones are there now? How many cubes in total? When you regroup, does it change the number of cubes in all?

Students will work with a partner to solve the problems on page 341.

Introduce lesson by watching CD-ROM of Lesson 10-5.

Students will work along with teacher on the following pages 342-344.

Quick Check 10-5 Students will answer problems as the teacher reads the questions.

Thursday---Lesson 10-6 Problem Solving: Draw a Picture and Write a Number Sentence

Daily Common Core Review 10-6 Students will copy problems from the white board.

Today students will learn how drawing pictures and writing number sentences can help you solve story problems with tens and two-digit numbers.

Students will work in groups of 3-4 and share a part-part-whole model on page 345. Students will answer questions: Pam has 13 buttons. Julie gives her 10 buttons. How many buttons does Pam have altogether? What are you being asked to do? How can you draw a picture with the part-part-whole model in Item 1 to show this picture? Count the tens in 13. Count the total number of tens in 13 and 10. If the ones digit stays the same what is the sum of 13 and 10?

Introduce lesson by watching CD-ROM of Lesson 10-6.

Students will work along with teacher on the following pages 346-348.

Quick Check 10-6 Students will answer problems as the teacher reads the questions.

Friday---Review Topic 10 by using the practice pages 10-1 through 10-6. Students will work along with the teacher on these pages together in class. Students may have homework if not finished and students will need to return work back to school.

Reteach page 349-350 Students will use these problems as a review for the test on Topic 10 on Friday. Students will need to study for this test.
