“REALITY CHECK”

Their Expectations / Their Reality / How knowing this will help me
They wanted….
1.) to “fit in” / Ultimately they:
*Lost connections in life & ended up
Alienating those they loved the most
*Losing friends to jail, drugs or death.
They wanted…
2.) to have fun / Eventually:
*Had NO fun in their lives anymore
*Just misery and desperate
to get a “fix”
They wanted….
3.) to feel more confident / But instead:
*Began to feel like “losers”
*NEVER thought they would
“end up” like they did.
(jail, rehab over and over, no job)
They Thought….
4.) that they could “control”everything
and that nothing bad could happen
to them. / But they found:
*They couldn’t control their
addiction
*They made choices that they are
ashamed of
*They ended up feeling like they
wasted their ONE and ONLY life.

would somehow make it ok and
safe for them. / But instead of being safe together:
*Many of their friends also
-Ruined their lives too
-Went to jail

* People began to pull away from
them they had become selfish

*Rehab didn’t always work!
* Some went MANY times to rehab

*They couldn’t get jobs, in jail, loss

loving relationships, feeling LOST
in the world
*A feeling of helpessness in life.
