Appendix: Instructions for the Student Research Grant

If a proposal involves more than one student, each should complete the form on the other side.

Feel free to solicit assistance from the members of the Student Research Grant Committee. If this

research involves human, you must have an approved IRB application. Note, the applications for IRB and SRGC are essentially the same except for the cover letters.

1.Description of the research.

a.State the purpose of your proposed activity. (What is the topic of the research problem you will address?)

b. Abstract: include 1-2 paragraphs (150-250 words) summary of what you are going to do how you are going to do it. c. Describe the methods you will employ in your research. (How do you propose to solve the problem or investigate
the topic?)

d. Describe the kinds of results you anticipate from the research and the manner in which the results will be
presented in writing to the committee and orally in the appropriate campus forum. (What will the research yield
How will the results be presented?)

e.Describe the benefits of your research. (How will it benefit you and the others involved as a scholar? What will
the value of your findings be?)

f. If a survey or questionnaire is to be used, include it with your application.

2.Describe in some detail the projected timetable for your research, including its commencement, major steps, termination, and presentation. Include locations when travel is involved. Projects will ordinarily be limited to one year.

3.Itemize all the projected costs of your activities. If travel is involved, specify costs of transportation, lodging and meals, and fees, not to exceed $750 per student.

4.Requested funds.

a.Specify how much you are requesting as a Student Research Grant. If any part of the Student Research Grant funds requested will be expended by a university department or employee to facilitate the student’s project, please indicate that in

the request. If requesting funds for equipment the proposal must specify which entity on campus will retain ownership upon completion of the project.

b.Specify if you will receive funds for this activity from other grants or from other University Sources.

5.Add any other information you feel will support your application or help the committee make its determination. List the resources necessary or desirable: for example, access to or use of University equipment, facilities, supplies, or personnel.
