STUDENT RECOGNITION CRITERIA
Plaza Middle School will be recognizing outstanding students in academics as well as extra effort, character, leadership, and perfect attendance. Usually, student records will be screened each quarter to determine if they qualify for an award. A variety of certificates and awards will be distributed to students who qualify.
1-3 Quarter Honor Rolls:
PRINCIPAL HONOR ROLL: 4.0 GPA
PLAZA HONOR ROLL: 3.5 GPA
TIGER HONOR ROLL: 3.0 GPA
1-4 Session Honor Rolls:
HORIZON STAR:ALL Exploratory Academic Standards Grades of 3.0 or higher
- Note: Final honor roll lists will be posted 5 student contact days after grade card distribution.
PERFECT ATTENDANCE: Students who are present 100% of the time will be recognized quarterly (1-3 quarters). The cumulative year-endperfect attendance award is a KC Royals ticket voucher.
EXTRA EFFORT: Teachers nominate students that have exhibited extra effort and shown growth or progress in their schoolwork (1-3 quarters).
LEADER OF THE MONTH AWARD: Teachers choose two students from the team each month that have displayed outstanding leadership in one of the following categories (The Leader in Me by Stephen Covey): Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, Synergize, and/or Sharpen the Saw. Students are honored with a certificate and have their pictures placed in a highlighted “Leader of the Month” bulletin board. The student’s names are announced over broadcasting and they will be presented with a prize.
TIGER TOKENS: Students will be awarded tokens for various incentives throughout the school year as outlined on the Plaza Success Tracker.
PLAZA STUDENT RECOGNITION BULLETIN BOARDS: Three bulletin boards are decorated around the building with lists of all academic award winners each quarter.
POSITIVE ACTS OF KINDNESS: Any student “caught” displaying an act of kindness toward a peer or adult will receive a coupon. Those coupons will be entered into a drawing for a prize.
PHI EPSILON SIGMA HONOR SOCIETY: (Plaza Excellent Student)
During the end of year Awards Ceremony students who have earned a total GPA of 3.25 or above for the first three quarters will be inducted into the Phi Epsilon Sigma Honor Society. Placement and awards will be based on the following criteria:
Summa Cum Laude 4.00 Cum Laude 3.74-3.50
Magna Cum Laude 3.99-3.75 Member 3.49-3.25
PLAZA PRIDE AWARD: This award recognizes those students who are making an outstanding effort to learn and improve their academic subjects. These are the students who go the extra mile, put forth extra effort, and exhibit hard work and motivation. They also exhibit good citizenship toward adults and students. Individuals are nominated by teachers and awards are presented at the end of the year.
