STUDENT MUST HAVE A SIGNED CONTRACT ON FILE TO HAVE A CELL PHONE AT SCHOOL

Dear Parent/Guardian:

MPS policy states:“Any electronic communication device that is activated, used, or displayed will be confiscated, inventoried, and stored in a secure location until the school administration holds a conference with the parent or adult student. Any electronic communication device that is activated, used, or displayed in a manner that endangers the physical safety or emotional wellbeing of others will be confiscated and held for disciplinary proceedings or turned over to lawenforcement.”

In accordance with MPS Board policy, the Reagan Professional Learning Community in conjunction with the School Governance Council has developed the following plan regarding cell phones (and pagers) in school:

  • We understand that some students need phones before and after school.
  • We also understand that phones can be a distraction at best and dangerous in some circumstances if used in school.
  • In order to have a cell phone in the building (not be used) there must be a student contract signed by the parent/guardian and kept on file in the Reagan office.
  • Regardless of whether the student has astudent contract on file or not, any phones seen in the building will be confiscated. This is true for phones seen on school property before or after school. A parent or guardian will need to come up to the school to retrieve the phone.
  • This policy is to protect your child.

Be aware that:

  • Cell phones cannot be used during the school day for any reason, howeverphones are available in the Reagan office and each teacher has access to a classroom phone. These phones can be used by students for real emergencies, with the permission of the teacher or office staff.
  • Cell phones must be kept in the locker at all times and be turned off.
  • If a cell phone is used to call outsiders to the school to participate in harassing or fighting another student or staff member, the student can be expelled from MPS and the outsiders will be prosecuted/criminally charged.
  • Parents/Guardians cannot call or text their child’s cell phone during school hours, please contact the school office at 304-6100 if an EMERGENCY arises.

All parents are required to sign and return to schoolthis page that says you have read and understand the Reagan Cell Phone Policy even if your child will not be bringing a cell phone to school.

If you have any questions, call me at 304-6105.

Sincerely,

Mike Roemer,

Principal
