STUDENT CONDUCT ON SCHOOL BUSES

The following are procedures designed to assure the safety and convenience of students riding the public school buses to Licking Heights Local Schools. Students will be notified of the school transportation rules.

A.No loud, boisterous talking or foul language or swearing.

B.Riders shall remain in their seats while the bus is in motion.

C.Riders shall not put hands, arms, or any part of their bodies outside the bus windows.

D.No food or drink is to be consumed on the bus.

E.No one is to tamper with bus parts or damage the bus in any way.

F.Dangerous objects or weapons may not be taken on the bus. Continued acts of misbehaving are reasons for the immediate denial of the student's privilege of riding the bus.

G.Riders shall keep their hands off the persons and property of other riders.

H.Items other than a student's personal books are not permitted on a bus.

I.The use of tobacco products is prohibited. This policy is consistent with Policy 5512.

J.Reasonable behavior at pick up points and terminal points is assumed.

K.Other improper behavior not covered above may result in the denial of bus privileges.

L.Students will be subject to all other rules in the student handbooks and in the Code of Conduct (e.g., harassment, intimidation, bullying and hazing, etc.)

Students who persist in violating the above rules will be subject to the following disciplinary actions:

A.The bus driver will report the name of the student to the Bus Supervisor, who will involve the appropriate people from the high school, middle school, or elementary school. The student will be officially put on notice that further misbehavior will result in a suspension of riding privileges. Parents must be notified of the student having been put on notice.

B.Repeated offenses will result in a two to five (2-5) day suspension from riding the bus. The student will receive notice of the suspension prior to its commencing and the student shall be given an opportunity to appear before a District official prior to having these privileges suspended.

C.If a student is suspended from riding the bus the suspension will be effective starting the morning of the next school day.

D.Third offenses and beyond will result in ten (10) day to permanent suspension of riding privileges.

This progression of penalties applies to offenses that are not deemed to be serious. Serious violations are subject to lengthy suspension based on the nature and severity of the offense(s).

Students riding the bus and parents of the students should communicate with the school immediately if a particular difficulty is unobserved and unreported by a driver.

This policy will be made available to all parents and students and will be posted in a central location in each school building.
