  • Strategic Planning Brochure
  • Kevin provided each committee member with a copy of the strategic plan brochure.

3. Discussion

  • Department Initiatives Worksheet
  • The group reviewed the department initiatives worksheet. Each department will use the worksheet to identify division objectives their work supports and indicate what initiatives they’ll implement in support of the objectives. Kevin explained that department’s aren’t expected to create initiatives for every objective—only those that align with their work.
  • Kevin also provided an example of completing the worksheet using an example from Hilltop’s strategic plan.
  • Next Steps:
  • Set Department Initiatives Worksheet Due Date – July 7th
  • The committee agreed to setting a July 7th due date for the Department Initiatives Worksheet.
  • Aramis mentioned that the July 7th deadline may not be possible for KU Student Housing—since they are in the middle of a search for a Director. KU Student Housing will look at what they can contribute to for now, but may wait to send final document once Director is in place.
  • Set 2016 – 2017 Baseline Information Collection Due Date – August 11th
  • 2016 -2017 Baseline Information will need to be collected to identify where we’re starting from, in relation to our metrics.
  • Kevin will provide a form/template to collect this information soon.
  • The committee agreed to setting an August 11th due date for collecting Baseline Information.
  • Share 2017 – 2020 Strategic Plan at Spring All-Staff Meeting – April 25th
  • Preliminary Strategic Review – January 2018
  • Kevin shared that the preliminary strategic review will look at what we’ve accomplished, in relation to our metrics, during the Fall 2017 semester.
  • Annual Strategic Review – June 2018
  • Kevin shared that the annual strategic review will look at what we’ve accomplished, in relation to our metrics, during the first year of implementation.

4. Additional Comments/Questions

  • Aramis suggested each department create some sort of communication piece that includes their department specific initiatives. This will not only help in communicating what each department is working on, but also help to identify ways departments can collaborate on initiatives.
  • The group decided to set Fall Break as the deadline to have discussed department communication pieces in place.
  • Lindsay also mentioned posting each department’s communication document in a centralized location on the Student Affairs website.
  • Kevin mentioned that he would send Department Initiatives Worksheet electronically and would also share with the Student Affairs Leadership Team.
