ISU Regulations on Scholarship for International Students

Article 1

The purpose of these guidelines is to encourage international students to apply to and study at I-ShouUniversity (hereafter ISU).

Article 2

International students to whom referred hereafter are those who are 1) not overseas Chinese; and 2) non-ROC citizens.

Article 3

The maximum duration of award for undergraduate students is 4 years, master’s students2 years, and doctoral students3 years. The number of scholarship awarded will vary annually depending on the annual budget of ISU.

Article 4

Application requirements are listed as follows:

(1) Incoming students: application materials will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee, which allots the awards available to a limited number of applicants that year.

(2) Continuing students:

A. Undergraduate students: those who have studied at ISU for one year and have been taking at least 9 credits per semester. Applicant’s performance ranking on the courseworkin the previous semester has to be within the top 20%.

B. Graduate students: those who have studied at ISU for one year and have been takingat least 6 credits per semester. Applicant’s performance ranking on the courseworkin theprevious semester has to be within the top 20%.

C. Applicant’sscore on moral conduct has to be 80 and above and s/he does not have any record of illegal conduct or severe violation of ISU regulations.

Article 5

These regulations are not applicable tointernational students who are studying in professional programs at ISU.

Article 6

Application periods are based on the semester:international students enrolled in the fall semesterneed to submit applications before the deadline set specifically for the fall semester, and the students enrolled in the spring semester will have to submit their applications before the deadline set for the spring semester. Applications will not be accepted if submitted across different semesters.The application periods are:

(1)Incoming students: before the deadline of regular admission for international students in the fall or spring semester.

(2) Continuing students:

a. Enrolled in fall semester: submit applications to the Office of International Affairs(hereafter OIA) withinthe first week of June.

b. Enrolled in spring semester: submit applications to the OIA withinthe last week of December.

Article 7

Application materials are listed as below:

(1) Incomingundergraduate/graduate students:

A. Application form

B. Chinese or English transcript from highest education or the percentage

rank in classwhen graduating

C. Scores on standardized exams if applicable

D. One copy of curriculum vitae

E. Two letters of recommendationin Chinese or English

F. Other certificates or proofof awards and extracurricular activities

(2) Continuingundergraduate students (except for freshmen):

A. Application form

B. Transcript of pervious academic year (including class ranking) and record of moral conduct. Submit the materials to OIA

C. One letterof recommendation (in Chinese)from the chair of the department where the applicant is studying

D. One letter of recommendation (in Chinese) from applicant’s professor in the department

(3) Continuing graduate students:

A.Application form

B. Transcript of pervious academic year (including class ranking) and record of moral conduct. Submit the materials to OIA

C. One letterof recommendation (in Chinese) from the chair of the department where the applicant is studying

D. One letter of recommendation (in Chinese) from applicant’s professor in the department

E. One copy of thesis/dissertation proposal. The proposal should include the following: purpose of the study, research structure and design, sources of data, research method, abstract and bibliography.

Article 8

There are two types of award –Full Scholarship (NT$120,000/year) and

Half Scholarship (NT$60,000/year). The amount of scholarship will be split in half and awarded in two semesters.

Article 9

Scholarship recipients shall report to the OIA and complete registration on the first day of school. The International Student Section of OIA will assist these students with tuition and dormitory fee waivers. If the amount of scholarship is less than the total fees due, the recipient has to pay for the difference. However, the remainder of the scholarship will be returned to the recipient if the amount of award exceeds the total fees due. .

Article 10

The application will be reviewed and evaluated by the Scholarship Committee. The recipients will be notified by the OIA, and the names of scholarship recipients will be announced and published.

Article 11

The recipient of this scholarship is NOT eligible to apply for other types of scholarshipavailable atISU for the same academic year.

Article 12

The scholarship will be revoked if the recipient 1) does not complete registration for the semester when scholarship is awarded; 2) retains ISU student status or 3) transfer to another university. The recipient will be asked to return the full amount of scholarship awarded if s/he drops out or has been suspended. In addition, the scholarship recipient will be required to return the scholarship, if s/hereturns to ISU after semester(s)-long hiatus, or whose score on moral conduct is below 80 in the previous semester, or with records of violation of ISU regulations and penalty.

Article 13

Scholarship recipients will be asked to return the scholarship if found to submit counterfeit documents or fake qualifications.

Article 14

The Scholarship Committee is composed of the President, 3 Vice Presidents, Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of Student Affairs, Dean of General Affairs, Director of Continuing Education, Chief Secretary, Heads of the colleges, and Director of Accounting. When necessary, personnel pertinent to scholarship decisionwill be asked to be present at the meetings. The president serves as the committee chair, and the vice presidentswill serve as deputy chairs. The OIA is in charge of all the affairs regarding this scholarship.

Article 15

These regulations have been approved by the Administrative Council and the President of ISU. They are effective onthe day of announcement.
