The faculty, staff, and administration at SCC want to provide an atmosphere of positive learning. We want to be proud of you as a club sport participant and as a total person. In order to aid our club sport participants, we are going to provide you with some guidelines to help you make responsible decisions.

1.College Mission

“SCC serves our community by focusing on academic excellence, student success, workforce advancement, and life-long learning within a global society. We celebrate diversity and we enrich the economic and cultural vitality of the region by providing an accessible, comprehensive, and supportive environment for teaching and learning.”

2. Amateur Status

Club sport athletes must protect their "amateur status" which allows them to play inter-collegiate sports. Student-athletes cannot receive "pay for play" in the sport in which they compete at the collegiate level. Pay can come in various forms other than cash awards. Prizes, T-shirts, shoes, equipment, vacations, gift certificates, etc…that are given can all be interpreted as “pay.” If you areunsureif an activity you are considering would violate your amateur status, please see the athletic director, 104 College Center, or the student activities manager, 102 College Center, so we can investigate the particulars of the individual situation.

3. Expectations of the Player

Club sport participants are expected to attend every scheduled practice, competition, and required team events. If absences are based on a class conflict, please refer to #10, Attendance Policies, for additional instructions. Exceptions to this policy will be granted on an individual basis by the appropriate head coach in advance of the event. Appeals may be made, in advance, to the student activities manager.

4. Drug-Free Environment

St. Charles Community College provides a drug-free campus and work place and operates within the guidelines as set forth in the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 and the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988.

No alcoholic beverages are to be served or consumed at any on-campus or off-campus

College-sponsored function. This includes club, departmental, athletic, and class activities such as meetings, field trips, picnics, parties and similar activities. No College funds will be authorized for the purchase of alcoholic beverages.

The sale, possession, or consumption of alcoholic beverages and/or narcotics, hallucinogens, stimulants, and marijuana are specifically prohibited. Violations will be reported to the proper law enforcement officials for prosecution, as well as to the student activities manager, dean of students, director of public safety, vice president for academic and student affairs, and the President of the College. The College retains the right to remove the club sport participant from participation while allegations are under investigation. Disciplinary procedures will follow the investigation if appropriate.

If a student withdraws from courses so as to result in being enrolled in less than six credit hours during a semester where they were previously eligible, they become ineligible to continue their team status during that semester. They may not continue to participate in practices, games, team-sponsored travel or events. If a student receives all ‘W’ grades for the fall semester they are not eligible to play in the spring semester of that academic year. If a student receives all ‘W’ grades for the spring semester they are not eligible to play in the fall semester of the subsequent academic year. They may not participate in practices, games, team-sponsored travel or events.

Students participating in a SCC club sport must also maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 1.75. The only students to whom this rule does not apply are students who are in their first semester of college. For purposes of calculating the cumulative GPA for club sports a grade of P (Passing) shall carry a value of 2.00 and grades of R (Re-enroll) and F (Failure) will carry a value of 0. In keeping with SCC course repeat policy, if a student repeats a course the highest grade they receive will be used in the calculation of their cumulative GPA. Students should be aware that the grades they receive in any term, including summer, will be factored into their cumulative GPA.

Each club sport participant is responsible for the SCC equipment and uniforms that are issued to them. Failure to return this SCC property within one week after the season's final competition will result in a financial hold being assessed to the student’s account, in an amount equivalent to the replacement value of stated property. Students will not be allowed to register for class, receive official transcripts, etc. until the financial hold is lifted and the bill is paid in full at the Cashier’s office. Exceptions to this rule must be applied for, in writing, within the two-week return period. The letter should be directed to the student activities manager, CC 102.
If a player voluntarily leaves the team prior to the end of a season and tournament play, that player is responsible for returning the SCC uniform within one week of departure from the team.
