Structural Shotcrete Forum and Seminar

Deerfoot Inn & Casino Calgary, Sundance Ballroom B & C (#1000, 11500 – 35 Street SE)

Wednesday, June 24, 2009: 7:30 am – 5:00 pm

The Alberta Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering Calgary Section (CSCE) are co-hosting a full day Structural Shotcrete Forum and Seminar in Calgary on June 24.

There is a growing trend in North America toward the use of shotcrete with conventional reinforcing to construct permanent structural walls (in lieu of conventional formed and cast-in-place concrete). Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from a team of shotcrete experts and to discuss requirements for successful use within Alberta.

The Structural Shotcrete Forum morning sessions will include presentation by an experienced specifier, structural engineer, ready mix concrete supplier, testing agency, local shotcrete contractor. A shotcrete contractor with over thirty years experience building structural shotcrete walls in California will also present his experience. Each presenter will provide their perspective on producing quality structural shotcrete and its use in Alberta. An open forum discussion, where issues of interest can be presented & discussed, will conclude the morning session.

The afternoon seminar sessions will feature presentations on the Versatility of Shotcrete in Construction. It will open with a joint presentation by the current President and immediate Past President of the American Shotcrete Association. This presentation will provide a general introduction to shotcrete technology, followed by case history examples of the many and various uses of the shotcrete process in construction. It will be followed by case studies on the versatility of shotcrete in creating a Bobsleigh/Luge Track at Whistler, the use of shotcrete in infrastructure rehabilitation and, finally, waterproofing of structural shotcrete.

A highly engaging discussion forum will round off the day.

Attendees will leave this Seminar with an appreciation for the rapidly growing use of this versatile construction medium.

Early bird registration deadline: May 22. Final registration deadline: June 17
