Be Strong!

Ephesians 6:10 - 12

10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

INTRODUCTION:

The Apostle Paul knew how to be strong….

2 Corinthians 12:7 – 10

7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.

8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.

9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Joel 3:10 “…let the weak say, I am strong.

Paul tells us to “be strong in the Lord and the power of His might” for the ‘Spiritual Battle’ we are in. Let’s look at the GREEK text and see what Paul was really saying……

Page 2

1st “…be strong…”

A. strong = “endunamoo” [en – du – na – moo]

  • en = in; into
  • dunamis = explosive strength, abilty, or power
  • actually means = “empowering or explosive nner strengthening”

B. Paul uses the present passive imperative tense

  • The present imperative tense is a command to receive ASAP
  • The present passive imperative tense indicates that it must be an ongoing, lasting power

C. It conveys the idea of “continually being infused with an

excessive dose of dynamic inner strength and ability.”

2nd “…in the Lord…” [be strong in the Lord]

A. Locative Tense

B. The “continual infusion of excessive dynamic inner strength

and ability”

C. The “endunamoo”

D. Can be found only in one place – “in the Lord” – the location

Page 3

E. There is evidence of this power:

1. Gifts Of The Spirit

2. Becoming a witness for Christ

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

3rd “…and in the power…”

[be strong in the Lord and in the power]

A. power = “kratos” [kra – tos]

  • Demonstrative power
  • Something happens
  • You can see it!

B. Same word used in Ephesians 1:19 & 20

Ephesians 1:19 & 20 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

C. In the original Greek text, the same word structure is used in

Ephesians 1:19 and in Ephesians 6:10

“…according to the working of the his mighty power”

Page 4

D. This tells us that the same power God used to raise Jesus from

the tomb is the same power used in us to war against the enemy!

E. Kratos power is so overwhelming that strong, mighty Roman

Soldiers who guarded Jesus’ tomb, trembling with fear, fainted,

and crumbled to the ground like toy soldiers!

F. This Kratos power is so strong that when it entered the tomb,

Jesus’ cold, dead, decaying body was permeated with life and

victorious power of death, hell, the grave and all power of

Satan!

G. This is a divine power!

  • It can’t be bought
  • It can’t be earned
  • It can’t be transferred from grandma to you
  • It’s yours from God when you yield yourself completely to Him

4th “…of His might.”

[be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might]

A. might = “ischuos” [is – chu – os]

  • Greek reference for a very, very strong man;
  • A body builder, One with great muscular ability and strength;
  • The ultimate champion who cannot be beaten!

B. This ONE with such power is GOD

Page 5

With one stroke of His hand…..

1. The universe was flung into being

2. Those plotting against Him at the Tower of Bable were

confused and dispersed

3. The wicked people of Noah’s day were destroyed by the flood

4. Fire and brimstone fell from heaven on Sodom and Gomorrah

5. Egypt was destroyed in the Red Sea

6. The Walls of Jerico came crashing down,

7. Jesus was born of a virgin

8. Jesus was released from Satan’s death hold in the tomb

9. The Holy Ghost fell in the upper room,

10. He reached down and pulled you from the grasp of sin

11. He will rapture you to eternally be in Heaven with Him,

12. He will establish His throne upon this renovated earth,

13. He will cast Satan, the devil, the deceiver of the brethren

into Hell and the Lake of Fire for ever and ever…

C. He has extended that same “might” to us!

D. No wonder Paul said

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Conclusion:

What kind of “Spiritual Power” do you have today?

Are you ready for what Satan brings against you?
