Fish-4-Business Challenge 2016

Introduction and Background Information

The Fish-4-Business project is an empowerment initiative of Erongo Marine Enterprises (Pty) Ltd that supports entrepreneurship and thereby growth of small enterprises in rural Namibia. The objective is to help small shop owners in Namibia’s rural communities grow their business and create jobs through the sale of horse mackerel. In this way those entrepreneurs will directly contribute to poverty alleviation, increased local fish consumption and food security in rural areas. Overall to the development of Namibia’s economy.

A component of the Fish-4-Business entrepreneurship and enterprise development initiative is a competitive element. After all coping with competitiveness by outsmarting competitors, sets apart those who succeed from those who fail in the business arena. If you believe you have what it takes to succeed in business, you are invited to submit your application for the 2016 round of the Fish-4-Business Challenge.

Ten finalists, who will be selected out of all applicants in Fish-4-Business Challenge 2016, will be invited to participate in a sponsored business skills development programme in Walvis Bay that includes business skills development training, interacting with seasoned entrepreneurs and observational tours to a fish processing plant. In turn 5 shop owners of the 10 finalists will be selected as beneficiaries to receive a free shop upgrade, which includes branding of the shop as a “Fish Shop”, installation of a cold room on the shop premises, supply of display fridges and an initial consignment of free frozen horse mackerel and canned EfutaMaasbanker for resale. Furthermore,the 5 beneficiaries will receive specialized business training and mentorship extended over a period of 12 months by SMEs Compete.

Application for the Fish-4-Business Challenge 2016 is free. However, in addition to agreeing to abide by the rules of the Challenge (see the terms and conditions listed at the bottom of this application form), there are application eligibility criteria, which are set out below:

  • The shop must be located in a rural area / village anywhere in Namibia
  • The applicant must be the owner of the shop
  • The owner of the shop must be engaged in the running of the business on a fulltime basis
  • The shop has been in existence for at least one year
  • The shop employs at least one person in addition to the owner
  • The shop is a legitimate business
  • Business is conducted from a premises owned by the applicant (shop owner)
  • The shop must have access to electricity and accessible by vehicle
  • The shop may not be close to any other existing fish shop
  • The shop must play an important role in providing basic food stuffs to the community and not be a shebeen only
  • The business owner would need some sort of financial records for the shop in order to determine how successful the shop is run

Fish-4-Business Challenge 2016 – Terms & Conditions

  1. All application forms must be submitted via email to fax: 064-202525 by no later than 30 April 2016 by midnight. No late submission will be accepted.
  2. Applications will only be accepted in the format of the Fish-4-Business Challenge 2016 application form, however candidates will be allowed to submit supporting documentation, e.g. cover letter.
  3. Erongo Marine Enterprises (Pty) Ltd reserves the right to cancel or amend the Fish-4-Business Challenge or the terms and conditions thereof without notice.
  4. In the event of any dispute regarding theterms and conditions, conduct, results and all other matters relating to the Fish-4-Business Challenge 2016, the decision of the judges shall be final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into.
  5. Qualifying applicants must meet the eligibility criteria as set out on page 1.
  6. Employees of Erongo Marine Enterprises (Pty) Ltd or any associated company and their immediate families, persons connected with the Fish-4-Business initiative and their immediate families and/or their agents, are not eligible to apply for the Challenge.
  7. By applying for the Challenge, you hereby warrant that all information submitted by you is true, current and complete. Erongo Marine Enterprises (Pty) Ltd reserves the right to verify the eligibility of all applicants and of information provided.
  8. Erongo Marine Enterprises (Pty) Ltd reserves the right to disqualify any applicant if it has reasonable grounds to believe the applicant has breached any of the terms and conditions.
  9. Applicants agree that their names, photos of them and information about their business and its location, may appear in the local media and be used for marketing purposes.
  10. Sensitive information not for public consumption provided by all applicants in the application form will be treated in the strictest confidence and will only be used for the purposes of the Fish-4-Business Challenge 2016.
  11. Beneficiaries of the Challenge will not be allowed to transfer any of the benefitsgained through the Fish-4-Business Challenge and there is no cash alternative.
  12. Other than expenses covered by Erongo Marine Enterprises (Pty) Ltd, all expenses incurred by applicants in preparing and submitting an applications, and generally incurred by applying for this Challenge, unless specifically stated, are the sole responsibility of the applicant.
  13. Erongo Marine Enterprises (Pty) Ltd cannot accept any responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any applicant entering the Challenge or as a result of accepting any benefits.
