TNR Reference List

August 2017

This is a list of options. Information has been taken from the Internet for groups that indicate that they will help with Trap Neuter Return (TNR), loan traps, provide TNR advice, or place barn cats. We do not guaranty the accuracy of the information. There may also be other groups that we are not aware of. You may also want to ask your vet for recommendations.

Stray Cat Blues is not affiliated with any of these other groups, and we are not responsible for their responsiveness and/or the quality or speed of their work. Some groups charge a fee for services, while others are free. Investigate and check out the groups to your own satisfaction before paying any monies or contracting for services. Make sure you understand all the fees that you will incur and your responsibilities as part of the process. Spay/neuter clinics may have rules regarding handleability of ferals. So be sure to ask, particularly if you are helping a cat that may be aggressive.

Be prepared to take back any cats that you have spayed/neutered through a TNR Project. (The “R” in TNR stands for return.) Due to a lack of outside/barn homes for feral cats, and limited availability in rescues for friendly stray cats, you should expect to take cats back to the site they were trapped, unless you specifically make alternate arrangements with the group helping you trap. Please commit to providing these cats with food, water, and some sort of outdoor shelter on an ongoing basis. For ideas for simple shelters, see a link on our website, or do a search online for “feral cat shelters”. You can make a simple shelter from a plastic bin, or use a dog house. (Or a more elaborate structure if you really love your outside cats!)

FIRST SUGGESTION – Think about if you can help yourself! Here is a link with instructions on how to conduct a Trap Neuter Return Project - If you only have a small number of cats to spay/neuter, you may be able to do the project yourself. See our home page for a link to Low Cost Spay Neuter clinics where you may be able to take your cats for surgery.
