Applications are invited for the above post within Strathcarron Hospice to join our Bank team of Catering Assistants in providing a high quality dining experience for patients, families, visitors, students and staff at Strathcarron Hospice.
You must have well developed communication skills, be able to work well in a small team and be able to demonstrate your ability to relate to the public in a caring setting.
You should have a working knowledge of catering procedures and previous experience would be an advantage. You should also hold a food hygiene certificate.
Training and supervision will be an integral part of the post holder’s development.

2. JOB PURPOSE
To contribute to the work of the kitchen team who are responsible for all aspects of the provision of nutritionally balanced food to patients, visitors and staff within the hospice.
To ensure a clean and health kitchen environment conducive to safe and enjoyable dining.
3. DIMENSIONS
§ To prepare and cook food for approximately sixty patients, forty visitors and sixty staff on a daily basis.
§ To offer a cafeteria service from midday – 6.30pm

To provide a nutritionally balanced range of food suitable for all hospice users, prepared, served and stored in accordance with legislative guidelines.

5. KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Store, prepare and cook food using appropriate methods and economical use of materials
§ Communicate directly with patients regarding their specific dietary requirements and menu choice
§ Liaise with nursing staff about patients’ dietary needs
§ Work effectively with volunteers
§ Ensure compliance to appropriate regulations and good practice in the preparation and presentation of food
§ Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen area
§ Adopt best hygiene practice and document all necessary recordings in keeping with food hygiene guidelines
§ Use all equipment safely and responsibly, reporting faults promptly when they occur
§ Work effectively with volunteers
§ Report accidents in accordance with hospice procedures
§ Report own illness in accordance with hospice procedure
§ Work in accordance with moving and handling guidance

Terms and Conditions: The terms and conditions of service are those laid down in line Agenda for Change Handbook.
Location: Strathcarron Hospice.
Salary Scale: Band 1, £16,532 per annum, pro rata.
Staff taking up a new appointment with Strathcarron Hospice will normally enter the scale at the minimum of the pay band/range. Any appointment above the lowest point of the pay band/range will be subject to verification of previous NHS/Hospice services or experience outside the NHS/Hospice, which is given in recognition of relevant complete years of experience.
Hours: As and when required
Employees may be required to vary the pattern of their working week subject to the exigencies of the service.
Duration: Permanent
Annual Leave: In line with the Working Time Regulations, you are required to take a minimum of 5.6 weeks (28 days based on a 5 day working week) leave annually (1 April until 31 March) from the Staff Bank.
Sick Leave & Pay: In accordance with Strathcarron Hospice provisions
Superannuation: This post is superannuable under The Falkirk Council Local Government Superannuation Scheme and your remuneration will be subject to deduction unless you choose to opt out of the scheme.
Right to work in the UK:
Strathcarron Hospice has an obligation to ensure it does not employ any worker who has not been granted the relevant permission to work in the UK. This permission is without exception granted by the UK Border Agency.
