Place of work: / Options for Life, Oak Green Lodge, Oak Way, Oldbury, West Midlands, B68 8LR. Travel will be required to any premises from which Options for Life operates.
Job summary : / To support the Chief Executive at a strategic and operational level. Key aspects of this role include leading on fundraising, working with commissioners, managing operational managers and being the senior manager responsible for Day Opportunities, Support Options, Administration, HR, organisational development, facilities management and health and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic development

  1. To support the Chief Executive and Board in the ongoing transformation and continual improvement across Options for Life.
  2. To deputise for the Chief Executive.
  3. To be a member of, and take an active role in, the Strategic Management Team.
  4. To be responsible for, and lead on, all aspects of fundraising, including through the competitive bidding process.
  5. To be responsible for, and lead on, the development of a social business approach.
  6. To develop strong and effective working relationships with current and potential Commissioners and funders.
  7. To lead on research and policy development.
  8. To develop and performance manage the annual business planning cycle.

Operational

  1. To ensure the smooth running and appropriate development of all operational areas (Day Opportunities and Support Options).
  2. To be responsible for the compliance and ongoing monitoring of all aspects of health and safety across Options for Life(with support from external health and safety specialists).
  3. To be responsible for and lead on all aspects of internal and external communication, including marketing and publicity.
  4. To lead on all aspects of HR (specialist HR advice is commissioned from a specialist, external organisation).
  5. To manage contracts with commissioners and external providers.
  6. To line manage the Facilities and Maintenance Coordinator.
  7. To produce and publish a rolling programme of capacity building activities.

Staff and volunteer management, case management and professional development

  1. To have day-to-day and line management responsibilities for Operational Managers, this currently includes Day Opportunities and Support Options Managers, Administration Team Leader and Facilities and Maintenance Coordinator.
  2. To manage all aspects of the employment for employees and volunteers including recruitment, induction, performance and learning and development.
  3. To lead quality assurance activities, including the maintenance of externally assessed quality marks.
  4. To lead on organisational away days and organisational development.

Quality assurance

  1. To be responsiblefor the quality and development of all people activities.
  2. To be responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are implemented across Options for Life.

Other duties

  1. To uphold and champion the values of the organisation, acting as a role model to others, building a confident, energetic, customer focussed organisation committed to continual improvement.
  2. To be a champion for equality across Options for Life.
  3. Any other duties as required for the role.

Attributes of a successful candidate

The following are essential:

  1. Educated to degree level or equivalent or at least a five year proven track record in public health, health and social care or community engagement environments is required.
  2. The ability to manage multiple and changing priorities at any one time, to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  3. Experience of working with minimal supervision and successfully completing projects working through your own initiative and self-motivation.
  4. Effective working IT skills, in particular of MS Office Word and PowerPoint ideally including excel.
  5. Ability to undertake research in support of the role.
  6. Ability to lead policy development and review.
  7. Experience of working with potentially disadvantaged/vulnerable groups to empower them to have a stronger voice and more control in their own lives.
  8. Strong problem solving skills and the ability to work with a high attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral), with the ability to communicate with people of all abilities in an empathetic, sensitive and tactful way, including people with learning disabilities.
  10. The ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organisation.
  11. Demonstrable experience of working with the community and voluntary sector.
  12. Experience of fundraising throughnegotiating with commissioners and national bodies.
  13. Significant experience of senior management with teams, including clear skills of motivation, performance management and reviews, employee development, support and appropriate delegation.
  14. Ability to report and be accountable to a Board of Trustees.
  15. Experience of the business planning cycle.
  16. Experience of organisational development.
  17. Flexible, reliable and a ‘can do’ attitude to be able to support colleagues and work as a positive team member.
  18. To contribute to, and actively promote, the philosophy, values and aims of the organisation.
  19. To have an understanding of and an ability to implement an Equal Opportunities policy.

Additional notes on the post of Deputy Chief Executive
Probationary period / The first 6 months are a probationary period, with the potential to extend following a formal review.
Pension / All permanent staff are eligible to join a contributory Group Personal Pension scheme after 3 months continuous employment. OFL will also contribute an amount equivalent to 3% of your monthly wage each month, increasing to 4% after 5 years of service and 5% after 10 years of service.
Annual leave / The holiday entitlement is 24 days plus 8 statutory days.
