We have given out grants in the past and after some discussion, everyone was in favor to have grants again this year. We will go ahead with 4 @ $200.00. A committee will need to be formed to read through the grant applicants and choose who will receive these grants.Forming the committee was tabled until March. It was voted that we would have an ice cream social in May for the end of our year.

Mental Wellness Theme:

1.NAMI CI – Leah DeMarest handed out brochures. NAMI as a Wellness Center across from the Ames Library. They offer art, yoga and writing.Agencies come in and talk about their services and there is a calendar corner where they can decide on activities. On Thursday they have mental health support group and once a month they have family and care givers come together to talk through and work on solutions. There are always volunteer hours available. NAMI holds a 12 week course called Family to Family. Families can learn how to care for a family member with mental illness. Peer to Peer is a 10 week course to help those who do not understand their mental illness. Qualifications as a teacher are if you are dealing with someone in your family who has a mental illness or you have been diagnosed with a mental illness. Trainings for this are on Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers offer support by calling individuals to make sure they are going to their appointments. ISU students volunteer to reach out to children in middle school to mentor those who have a mental illness. This is not an official support group on campus but volunteers available.

CFR – Tamra Jurgemeyer was not available.

MICA – Health Services - Carliefrom MICA stated WIC checks will be going on a debit card March 3. If they lose them, they will have to be reissued and you will need to report it to the police. People on WIC checks receiveapproximately $65/child until age 5. If people stay on the program instead of sign up and drop off, it will benefit them over time so they can save up for fun things during the summer for example. New items will be added to the list.

MICA website is now interactive. You will be able to click on the email to send a message. Maternal Health program will be able to spend more time with the soon-to-be momsand do more visits. This will happen in Story, Marshall and Tama Counties as of right now.

CSA – Natalie - The integrated health program works with the population starting at age 18 with no ending date. The may work with younger siblings of one already receiving services. CSA deals with mental health and medical care, social needs and emotional well- being. Care coordinators are very mobile and will text the clients a lot and keep in touch. They can meet at Optimae or the library if they do not wish to meet at home. CSA offers a Nurse Care Manager who will work with you to develop a specific plan to support your overall wellness. They will now be working with the MCOs, but don’t know how this will work out with them as of yet. They are taking on more clients for the counties where case management has already closed down. CSA will be able to provide case management for those individuals who have lost county case management. 515-883-1776 246# Melissa Ahrens, Supervisor or Andrea #315 Family Coordinator.

Agency Sharing - (Any brochure or flyer shared at the meeting or emailed to Deb Russom will be shared via e-mail with the minutes.)

Agency sharing- Shannon- United Way Hunger Collaboration has a pop up display/guide to let the community know (awareness) about the hunger in Story County- also shows where you can go for a meal or other resources for assistance. (Hunger Guide) this is helpful for those who need to find a place to eat and others that can volunteer or donate. There is no set time how long the display will be at one place.

Foster Grandparents is doing a big push for foster grandparents

Joani Mainstream- There is a safe harbor for individuals who have Medicaid to help those to still see a doctor and not be penalized.

Rachel- .Childserve has signed with AmeriHealth Caritas. We are planning to sign with all 3, just negotiating contracts still with the other 2. Have noticed that some families have still not heard of MCOs. They have also been telling a lot of people about HIPP because they can stay on standard Medicaid and avoid MCOs if they are on HIPP. ChildServe staff has been compiling a list of which providers have signed with which MCOs.

ChildServe’s Day Health program is full and we are starting a waitlist. There is a Day Health flyer attached that explains about the program.

ChildServe’s Respite and Supported Community Living, including respite weekends have some openings. This is for children on health & disability, intellectual disability, or brain injury waivers.

Rachel-Kalean will be here next month to talk about the transportation program through RSVP

Nikki- Central Iowa Community Services- now have a crisis hot line- if you are interested in having a poster, please let Nikki know. Not sure how these will be distributed at this time. Contracted through Foundation 2 in Cedar Rapids. Will notify emergency personnel in case that would be needed.

MICA family development-175% below the poverty level to help with their energy bill.

Peg YSS- has openings at their facility and Cherie as well has openings in their program.
