Background

  • On normal match days half of the juniors (2 age groups), and half of the minis (3 age groups) will have home games on a Sunday morning
  • The U6s and the Special Squad also train most Sunday mornings
  • There is sufficient car parking space to accommodate all the cars from home and visiting teams on normal match days
  • On occasions when other age groups that were scheduled to be playing away have home fixtures or are training instead, car parking space needs to be closely managed in order to accommodate the volume of cars
  • The parking arrangements for the Stockport Festival and for any other tournaments held at Stockport RUFC are outside the scope of this document. Car parking arrangements are to be made separately for those events

Car Park Marshalling

  • On the Thursday or Friday prior to a match day the minis and juniors chairman will nominate an age group to provide car park marshals on the Sunday morning. As far as possible age groups that are on Wallbank Road pitch will not be asked to perform this duty.
  • The minis and juniors chairman will share the responsibility evenly across the minis and juniors age groups throughout a season
  • The nominated age group’s manager is to find 3 adult volunteers from within his age group and is to ensure that they are properly briefed
  • The 3 volunteers are to be in place from 0930-1045
  • The 3 volunteers are to wear high visibility vests and are to communicate using walky talkies
  • Before 0945 the volunteers are to inspect the yellow and blue zones (see diagram below), to see if there are any boggy areas which cars might get stuck in. No cars are to be parked in boggy areas
  • 1 volunteer is to be stationed at the top of the hill and is to direct cars to the car parking zone where there are spaces that are currently being filled
  • 1 volunteer is to be stationed in the black zone initially, directing cars to their individual car parking spaces ensuring that cars are parked economically
  • 1 volunteer is to be stationed in the yellow zone initially, directing cars to their individual car parking spaces ensuring that cars are parked economically
  • Any 4 x 4 vehicles are to be directed to the yellow zone, regardless of whether or not the black zone is full or not; where they are to be directed to park beyond the compundand on the left hand side of the track, i.e. on the side of the track furthest away from the pitch
  • Any patrons of Wild Things are to be directed to the Wild Things car park. They are not to be permitted to park in any other area. If there are no spaces in the Wild Things car park then the driver must park elsewhere, i.e. not on the grounds of Stockport RUFC
  • No rugby cars shall be allowed to park in the Wild Things car park
  • Cars entering the black zone should only move in an anti-clockwise direction, with the top of the hill being 6 o’clock
  • The black zone is to be filled up first
  • A route through the black zone must be left clear to enable vehicles to access the track that leads behind the 1st XV pitch. This should be a path in a straight line from the top of the hill past Wild Things, in front of the containers and joining the track behind the pitch. One parking bay in front of the containers will have to left vacant in order to keep the route open
  • 2 parking spaces within the black zone should be left spare. These are to used for vehicles with passengers in wheel chairs, using crutches etc
  • Once the black zone is full the zone volunteerthat was directing cars to their individual car parking spaces in that zoneis to inform the volunteer at the top of the hill of that fact and is to move to the yellow zone to join the other volunteer already there
  • The yellow zone is to be filled up from the end nearest the clubhouse first
  • Cars should be parked on either side of the track running through the middle of the yellow zone
  • Once the yellow zone is full up the blue zone is to be filled up starting from the end nearest the yellow zone.
  • One row of cars is to be parked against the hedge and the other row of cars is to be parked 1 metre back from the dead ball line of the 2nd XV pitch (6 metres behind the posts). There is room for a third row of cars to be parked in the middle, facing the gardens behind the 1st XV pitch
  • Sufficient space should be left between cars/rows of cars to allow vehicles to exit
  • Once the blue zone is full one of the volunteers in that zone is to immediately inform the volunteer at the top of the hill
  • Any cars that arrive in the blue zone after it is full are to be parked in the red zone. Cars are to be parked up against the fence on the 1stXV pitch side of the red zone up to, but not beyond; the wooden tower
  • Once the volunteer at the top of the hill is informed that there is no more space left in the car park he/she is to inform the drivers of any cars arriving that they must go round the one way system in the black zone and back down the hill and look for a parking space elsewhere, but not on Headlands Road or Wallbank Road.
  • The manager of the age group responsible for marshalling car parking is to be informed immediately that the car park is full. The manager must ensure that someone remains at the top of the hill to inform all arriving cars that there is no parking space available until such time as cars start to leave the club once matches/training have finished. This will probably require a volunteer to be in place at the top of the hill until after midday

Equipment

  • The high visibility vests and walky talkiesare to be picked up and returned to the storage container in which the tackle shields are kept
  • Within the container these items are to be kept in a bag immediately to the right of the door so that they are easily accessible

Other Controls

  • The minis and juniors chairman will periodically remind parents that are dropping off older players not to drop them off in the club car park but to drop them off at the end of Headlands Road or at the end of Wallbank Road instead
  • The juniors fixtures secretary and the minis fixtures secretary, when confirming fixtures with other clubs; will ask visiting clubs to encourage their parents to car share. In addition they will ask visiting clubs not to park on Headlands Road or Wallbank Road
  • The minis and juniors chairman will periodically encourage Stockport RUFC parents to car share for home fixtures/training
  • The minis and juniors chairman will periodically remindStockport RUFC parents that they should not park on Headlands Road or Wallbank Road
