Projects/Interests:
  • None at present

Any Other Business:
  • Bardney Gala-BHG to have their boards put up in the WI stand in the cricket pavilion.
  • Mrs Benton has been to see P Atkin. She has an inventory of items that were in the barn/Manor buildings from the 1700’s.
  • Several people expressed a wish to see the barn as it stands. P Atkin to be contacted.
A long discussion took place on the options available to BHG, BHC, JCT and NHLF with regards to the Abbey Project. C Wilson brought along a list of these ideas with thoughts on their advantages and disadvantages. In the long term, with the site being outside, it seems that the best thing will be to cover it over and turf it as it was prior to the dig. This was deemed somewhat of a disappointment.
  • D Miles has grave reservations in connection with future ‘maintenance of the monument’. This moves a long way from ‘monitoring the site’. He feels BHG need to discuss this further.
  • The general consensus of opinion was that some sort of seating area, with or without a shelter, might be of use at the site for people who wanted to spend time sitting and reflecting. Not everyone agreed. This needs to be discussed further.
  • A small group had a review meeting on 20-06-2011 to discuss progress and review the Open Day. It was agreed that no new volunteers should be brought in.
  • Last day today - thanks to all Volunteers for their hard work on the dig and other tasks.
  • J Doughty will co-ordinate the field walking day – date to be arranged with Dave Armstrong.
  • Paul (APS) is willing to give some training on the cataloguing and drawing of the stones which have been removed from Abbey dig site. This is to be arranged with K Green.
  • We need a statement of methodology for the backfilling of the site from APS.
  • July 20th-K Ruane giving a talk on metal detecting at Southrey Village Hall.
  • A 3-litre Thermos flask has been kindly donated by the Silver Spoon Company – Bardney. A letter of thanks has been sent to Steve Jones – Plant Manger. (If it is the group’s wish, we should make it available on loan to any BHG/BHC/JCT member who has use of such an item?)
  • 05-08-2011-St Oswald’s Day Service-Being organised by P Atkin and J Wilford. This will comprise of a short talk by JW, music, and a service to commemorate St Oswald, starting at 6:30pm and lasting for approx 45minutes.
  • Barry and Lynne are willing to keep the fish and chip wagon open if numbers can be forwarded earlier to enable them to cater for the amount of people.
