Sterling Community Center news:

Our volunteers are AWESOME! Volunteers now staff the Sterling Community Center in the afternoons. A big Thank You to Marilyn Albright, Juanita Owens, Janice Smith, Carolyn Bosela, Darrel Keifer, Jason Borer and Art Brown for taking a 3-hr shift each week. Thank you to Phyllis Meldrin, Kathy Cullings, Terry Buffoand Grace Merkes for filling in when needed, too. We sincerely appreciatetheir help and friendly faces here at the SC Center.
Have you noticed the 5th wheel trailer parked near the SC Center? Please come welcome our new Site Hosts for the summer, Cliff and Cyndy Mills. Cliff and Cyndy are recently from Colorado. They came up to visit friends in Alaska, and decided to stay for the summer. You may see Cliff cleaning the gym floor or Cyndy helping with clerical tasks in the office. They are excited to be a part of the Sterling community, and we love having them join us.
The Sterling Community Garage Sale last month was a lot of fun.The local Mennonite church rented space to fundraise for the construction of their new church; their homemade breads, pies, cookies and sweet cakes were beautiful in presentation and so delicious, as well as clothing, plants and home decorations.Thirteen other local Sterling residents showed up with their own garage sale items and we saw new, as well as familiar faces come through the Sterling Community Center doors to shop, socialize, as well as get a homemade bowl of chili (compliments of Grace Merkes).“Thank you for your participation, whether you were a seller or a shopper.”We heard feedback from several locals encouraging us to do a Community Sale every month of the summer; we would love to know your thoughts on this prospect. We welcome your feedback!

Sterling Senior Center

Please welcome Shanna Dominic as the new Executive Director of the Sterling Area Senior Citizens, Inc. I’m sure this transition will be a positive one for the Senior Center and all of the members.

June was a great month for the Center. Not only hiring a new director, but the Salmon Classic Dinner fundraiser looks to be a success. There were a number of items donated and the names of people who donated are too many to list in this column. Thank you cards will be sent to those who sponsored this event. This is one of the most successful fundraisers on our calendar. Many thanks to the volunteers that made this happen. A complete list of volunteers and sponsors was in the Salmon Classic Event program.

July will bring lots of fish but also the Christmas in July and Gun Show fundraisers. Please be sure to tell all of your friends, neighbors, relatives and visitors about the events. The tables will all be full of great items. Stop fishing for a couple of hours and join us.
