Stephanie Martin Scholarship

Stephanie Martin was one of the earliest and longest serving board members of Arlington Children’s Theatre. She became interested in the Children’s Theatre after walking across the street to the Regent Theatre one day from her photography business to see children rehearsing a play. She offered to take photographs for them, and thus began a long relationship of providing expert photography, at well-below market costs, for the then-young ACT.

Since that time, Stephanie served in multiple capacities on the ACT Board of Directors as well as photographing virtually every ACT production until her death in April, 2010. She was fervent in her willingness and desire to make sure that ACT was both affordable and financially viable for years to come.

Her exemplary service to ACT is highlighted by the fact that she never had children of her own, but instead “adopted” each ACTor as her own. She was quick to offer positive words of encouragement and always willing to mentor children (and adults) interested in learning her craft and helping photograph the rehearsals and productions. She was diligent in her commitment to make sure each child was represented in the photographic memory of a production. She photographed “head shots” as well as cast photos that have become lifelong treasured memories of each child who has acted in an ACT production. She edited and produced digital CD’s of photos and large photographic display posters of ACT productions.

Everywhere she went she advertised the good work of ACT. She encouraged her friends from other towns to sign up their children for an ACT workshop or show, and even helped drive them to rehearsals if needed.

She will long be remembered as a fully-committed ACT representative who loved how ACT wanted to be inclusive, welcoming, and willing to do what it takes to make every child’s experience a positive one.

In Stephanie’s memory, Arlington Children’s Theatre and her beloved family and friends want to provide scholarship money to graduating high school senior(s) who exemplify Stephanie’s commitment and willing service to ACT, and who will continue to be a positive role model and representative of Arlington Children’s Theatre for years to come.
